Picked up a 2000 two weeks ago. Must say its been fun. First quad in over twenty years.

Anyway i have had a few issues. I have noticed i have what seems like 1 gear worth of slop in the shift lever. Shifts just fine it just seems the lever goes down to far in 1st. It makes finding neutral a biotch sometimes. Its not the splines and the lever is tight. Fearing inside cog missing a tooth?

Second issue. I switched to holeshots from the stock tires. It now seems like the quad is a little more darty. Like it wants to zip over here and over there at 35+. Is this inherent to more tire on the ground vs the stocker?

Thanks for the help.I:I

ok i checked my alignment and i have 36" in the front and 36.5 in the back of the tire. So that is about right. This is getting annoying. Its only t speed. And only happened after the tires. I would not think This would be a tire issue though. running 20 psi in tires at 36psi they where to bouncy.

Only other thing i can thing of is back end is crooked but i dunno where to measure for a good read.

are you talking the rear axle? if so you should have adjusters down on the carrier that you can adjust it with, usually I just measure the amount of thread each adjuster is left out and haven't had any problems, unless you swinger or something else is tweeked. also why in sames hell are you running 20 psi in your tires, most tires recommend no more than 6 to 8 psi operating pressure

WEll tire says 36psi so i dropped it to 20 i will drop down lower. My adjusters are all the way in. changing chain in the morning to alleviate that issue.

I just dont remember is riding this way with the stock tire on. Of course the stockers dont have much contact surface either. Not compared to the holeshots.

the tires prolly say "max pressure 36" i'm usually between 5 and 10, depending on how rocky the area is, try the new chain, measuring the thread remaining on the adjusters as stated above, and lower that tire pressure to under 10

Lowering pressure to 6psi has helped alot. Now i am on the hunt for the little piece that slides threw the front brake lever. Not the wing nut but the other little piece that slides in from the side.

anyone?

Well the issue is still there. Just at a higher speed now. 45+ i cant begin to say how sucky it is to drive a darty quad at speed lol. I dont know where to look next. Bearings i guess?

Yeah its like its dog tracking you cant actually see the quad do this but you can feel it, it feels like its shimming a little. Its not like it pulls or goes from one side of the trail to the other. Its just a very unstable feeling like the quad might go out of control at any time.

try lifting the front of the quad up and try moving the wheels back and forth and side to side to check if there is any play in the wheel bearings, also if the tierod ends are still good. I have a bad tie rod end on one side and it makes it kinda "darty"

Weird....I answered this thread yesterday and told you to check the alignment, but now my response is gone......

Anyway, your measurements indicate 1/2" toe-in. That is too much as mentioned above. Stock spec is 1/8 - 3/8" I run 1/4" and it works fine. And yes, 1/4" can make a big difference.

Ok i will flip the rims back over to there stock pos and do it again. Will report back. It just seems like i have been messing with it for a week and i get nothing. I am having a biotch of a time removing the tie rods from there housings to get a good measurement on them and check for warp-age. Christ i can take them off a f350 king ranch easier than this ;)

Also this kinda just sprung up out of now where. I dont know if i rubbed a rock on the trail or something.

What is the stock measurement from edge to edge on the rims? (front/back)Manual does not clarify this.
