ok i need someone who is really, really good with computer to help me. so i have a gaming computer, and in the basic, it started to lag out of the blue.

so when i play really any game, dosent matter if the graphics are good or not, about 10mins-1hr of playing, my computer starts to lag like crazy. All these games worked complety good with no lag, and i did not change anything!!! which is y im complety stumped. so just now, i was playing BFBC2 since thats the most graphic intestive, and i took a look at my cpu, mem, disk, network, and gpu settings, and the fricken CPU is maxed out at 100% all the time!!! everything else is fine and running normal. ive looked at all the process running, and everything, and i use game booster which kills all the process i want it to kill (which is all of them). and changes windows visual setting to basic. i cant find this service or process that is running while i play my games, or whats causing it to do this.

ive increased my pageing file to max, ive cleaned out my comp reallly throughly, ive defragged it, ive done everything to make it faster, and nothing. i know its not the ram, drive (still have 170gb left) graphics tho.

my comp specs: basics-

i3 2.40ghz cpu
ATI Readon 512mb graphics
7200rpm 320gb drive
6gb ram

any help would be really awesome! this is really pissing me off!

thanks!

I'm not a PC tech but I would check the cooling fan to see if it's working and the blades are clean. To much heat build up will screw with them.

Run these two gadgets and when the lag begins, write down the temperatures. It does sound like overheating.

Core Temp
Download GPU Monitor 5.7 Free - Lets you observe the current GPU stats of your graphic card - Softpedia

With those specs, you probably can't be running the games at max settings, especially battlefield, but they should run with no problem. See what the temps say and report back.

Also, run a disk defragmenter, CCLeaner, and a full system virus scan (I suggest AVG Free). After all of that, see what happens.

i have those gadgets, and done full scan. and still nothing. it shouldent be over heating tho. ive played these games for hrs on the same settings, with no lag or over heat. and besides. i have 3 fans blowing air on it. and the only games i have that i cant run full graphics are cod black ops, dirt 3, and bfbc2. but i found specs that dont lag, but now all the suddenly they lag! and cpu is at 100% when i run task manager.

Sounds like some process is running that is eating your cpu up. Dumb question... have you restarted your computer?

yupppp. and idk. ive looked like 15 times and cant find any process or services that are hogging. i have 45 process running when its in game mode. i googled the problem, and so many ppl have the same problem, but no solutions.

nope. it just started out of random. the weird thing is that when im on websites and itunes and such, everything is normal. like rite now when im typin this, im using 5% max. than when i run any game, the cpu shoots up to 95-100% and it lags like crazy. there r no other process running, or anything. other than that game. like now, my processes are at 72, but that is with a lot of shiz running. when i put it into gaming mode, it goes down to 46 processes.

i just upsated all the drivers, and windows, and cleaned out the entire system. im running a virus scan now, the only thing i dident update is audio driver, cause i loose all my settings for the EQ and such.

haha, I was about to suggest pulling your sound card... sound cards tend to wreak havoc on systems sometimes for no apparent reason.

you can also try rearranging your cards in the slots - at least the cards you can anyway. flip your ram chips to opposite slots, etc. Some times this clears things up. It could have developed an addressing issue or something like that. Its been a while since i have dealt with anything physically configurable (have been a MAC guy now for a few years) but Give that a go and see if it helps.

alright will do! as soon as this virus scan finishes, ima take it appart, see if theres dust, and i forgot to mesion that i this is a laptop. Dell studio 1458. when i run game booster tho, it automatically disables the realtek driver. but i will update it and swap the ram cards. good bye eq settings that took me 2 weeks to dile in :( owell

thnaks!

just screenshot your settings... good to go.

yeah, laptops make it hard to swap things around. lol. Try the ram. Sometimes the computer gods just like to f*ck with ppl for no reason so doing that may please them again.

Also, remember, laptops do run hotter than desktops. Mine has been up past 85C. My overheating is 100C. Now this does vary depending on the processor, but if it is a laptop, it's built to withstand heat.

That is a good idea to switch ram slots. That happened to my old PC, but that was actually preventing it to boot. But it could be causing something else. How about if you try WITHOUT game mode?

ok, so virus scan came up clean, and so did anti malware came up clean. i went to geek squad, and just asked them, and he said that a program like an anti virus is most likly doing it..... duhhhhh. like i havent realized that lol. i that got me thinking. when my norton expired, i uninstalled it, and after i did that it was running really slow. and security essetials was running. and from that point on, it was doing this. so i went home, swaped out the ram cards, and weeent through my entire computer (regedit, appdata, and so on), and foud a sh*t ton of both norton and avg files left over. so i deleated all them along with other programs i also deleated a while ago, than went into regedit, and deleated all the stuff from them there too again with other programs that i deleated a while ago, than ran 2 regriestory cleaners after to get anything i missed. one-ccleaner came up with 6 errors (which is expected) and the other, advanced system care- came up with 226 (which is still kinda expected). i cleaned all those out, deleated my page file, and a bunch of other sh*t. now as im typing this, my fan is mostly off as befor it was on, im using 2% cpu, and CPU core 1 is at 100 degrees, and core 2 is at 95 degrees. ram is is 31% rather than 35%. and my comp has been on for about 2hrs now. i havent tried the games yet. i still want to run some cleaners and go through the HD again and make sure AVG and Norton are both GONE! and i also cleaned all the dust inside, and i had a slideshow that had like 75 or so quad pictures that would play on he desktop. the file with all the pics in it was 75mb, so i deleated that, also and make my desktop 1 single pic. but from how and what its acting like now, it seems to be working! I hope......

Damn that was a lot of typing!!!!!

ok so i cleaned out everyting, and stoped the security essentials form starting with windows, and shut down the processes. i dont want to delete that, cause i like it, and god forbid something happends to my comp, and avast dosent work anymore, i have that. but its not running. before i did all this, i had 72 processes running. now i have 65. so thats a good thing. let me restart and try out a game! i havent heard my computer this quiet since i bought it lol the fan rarely kicks on now, cause of the low cpu ussage and temps! and if any one wants to know, my graphics card is at its normal 220mhz, and 110 degrees.

1.5 hrs of bfbc2! and NO LAG!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOO yay its fixed! turns out it was the 4 virus programs that were running. my primary-avast, security essentials- which i thought i disabled, norton- which i deleated-but still running- and avg- which i also deleated but was still running!

ugh 2 days tryin to figure this out! finally its fixed! thanks for all the help!
