Hiya.. newb here... first post...

I just got 2003 Blaster with a bad clutch... my question is how hard is it to reclutch myself? looks like the parts would be around $110?(bikebandit.com)... anyone know how much a shop would charge to do the work?

background: I've done jeep suspension lifts and I can build a house from scratch (residential builder by trade) but not very good when it comes to "fine tuning" and getting deep into engine rebuilds.. (fat fingers, no patience...lol)

does the engine have to be removed to do this? (i can't tell by the schematics on bikebandit.com)

thanks for any opinions....

you could do it yourself. just requires taking off the foot peg, kick start arm, then drain the oil then remove the clutch cover. its right there. just make sure you use the intstructions or a manual for how to put the plates in there. theres a order and a couple special parts that have to be in right.

89,

Ya I've done some digging on here and have read about some problems to watch out for while putting it back together......

should i just stick with the OEM dealer clutch? i'm not a hard rider, just basic trail riding....

thanks a lot...

OEM clutch is a good clutch but, you could probably get a cheeper better aftermarket one that you would be happier with. I have seen TUSK kits for as low as $50.00. take a look around.

But, overall, now that I have done the clutch I could do one start to finish in 30 minutes. Just make sure that you keep everything in order!

Fabb,

Wow...ok 30 minutes when you know what your doing... ok. sounds like i could do it in a couple hours then.. i might just attempt it... do you need skinny a$$ fingers to do the clutch?...lol...I'll search for a TUSK kit... is TUSK a mfg?... is there anything else i should replace while i'm doing this?

thanks

man, you could do it in a hour at the latest. no it doesnt require skinny fingers. ive got big little guys lol. just do it.

another tip. put some tranny oil into a plastic tupperware container, just enough to fit each one in. you gota fully cover each plate before you install them. forgot to say that the first time. make sure you use the right oil also, needs to be gear oil for quads, not cars. has to be specific for WET CLUTCHES. just remeber that. but im sure you know which oil's to use for everything. some people dont though.

Tusk is a product name that is exclusive to Rocky Mountain ATV. They have some very nice stuff for great prices in the Tusk line.

Where in MI are you from?

We are from Linwood/Bay City area, and could give you a hand if you are close enough.

Thanks for the tips TIM, 89...

ya i just bought some wheels for my 3 wheeler from RMATV (i know i'm a little old school)LOL... i'll check em out for the clutch... I'm south of detroit so that would be a hike, but i appreciate it... i think i can handle it... i'll keep ya posted on the outcome and post some pics when i get it up and running....

What's the best paper manual? is there one out there in PDF/digital form?

thanks again....

Ahh thats awesome man.. I live about exit 180 just off the highway.. we run around St. Helens quite a bit which is about 10 miles north of your folks place (which Im sure you know already)

I will never take my Blaster back to a shop to have it worked on. They charge WAY TOO MUCH! I would say to go ahead and do the clutch yourself. Get a Clymer`s manual and if you have any ?`s just call a shop and they should be able to help you over the phone.
