Well you would have to take the fibers off and look at them and see how well they were worn ?

I do not know, the condition or if it was working and all of a sudden stopped working, ect. or if things are missing. like washers or ball bearing that goes between the two rods.


another bit of info. Usually its good to replace the gasket. the big black one. however, you can also re-use it. if it's not broken.

What I do is carefully remove it and place some paper towels on top and underneath it and let it dry up and soak up the oil. do this a few times. to absorb all the oil on it, on both sides.

I like to also get a lint free cloth and some denatured alcohol or 90% alcohol and wipe both surfaces that will mate together, the clutch cover and the case.

I do this a few times, until all the oil is removed from the two mating surfaces.

I have had good luck when doing this and being able to re-use that gasket without any leaks.

Just got the vitos. Do you think the fibers is the whole reason it wasn't working? Btw I never was able to get that notch to line up

If still confused-

Lets start over, Before you go buying a new clutch, on the motor under the carb there is a raised arrow looks like this-

The clutch actuator the part on the motor that the cable attaches to also forms a Point (arrow) at the tip of it. This point and the raised arrow on the motor with the (clutch cable disconnected), should line up in a straight line!

You do this by loosening the center 10mm nut on the clutch pressure plate, next step is important! Put very light pressure on the clutch actuator- just to relieve the spring tension- and using a small phillips screw driver turn the center rod in or out until you line the point actuator with the arrow on the case. Once you have gotten this far, tighten the 10mm center nut.

Now re-attach your cable and adjust the free play in the cable- see below!

You should be set. The only real way to know for sure that you need new clutch is to measure the fiber plates-

Ok so as I adjust the center screw, nothing is happening to the clutch lever on the left side of the save. The cable is removed too.

Well I never even took that out so I'm guessing its still on there. By the way I bought the bike with this problem so I do not know if it just instantly stopped working.

It sounds like either the ball bearing has welded itself to one of the rods and bent it, and/or is binding, or the clutch actuator#23 (part that the cable connect to) is damaged or the rod has went past the actuator and is hitting the case!

I would remove the 5 screws and springs that hold the pressure plate on remove the plate the 10mm nut and short rod will come out with this assembly. Then you can either get a coat hanger and a nice strong magnet, stick the hanger in the hole of the shaft put the magnet to it and slowly pull it out (no pun intended) you may need to do this twice to get the longer rod out also. The other method, which has worked for me recently is if you have compressed air pull the clutch actuator#23 out of the motor check for damage to the flat end that is in the motor. if damaged replace. now that #23 is out, get your compressed air and (I used a cardboard box over the shaft to catch the rod), apply 10-20psi it should blow out of there easily!

Ok, do ya have a question bro?

When you do the the calibration to the clutch and hook the cable back up, The arrow will not be in line with the point on #23 due to cable tension, that is normal!

The manual says wear limit of .11in or 2.8mm checked at 4 places!

Alright sweet! Ill begin doing that. I re measured with a little better caliper that i know i can trust and it gave me a reading of 1.2mm, definately time to replace.

I'm trying to blow it out but I'm not sure what your doing with the cardboard box? 20 psi isn't doing anything.

The box just catches the rod , thats all , give it a good shot of air just becareful the rod doesn't shoot across the room!

One good thing from your pics doesn't look like the clutch basket has any wear marks!

I bought a vitos kit last night but yes I know I noticed that there was no grooves too! 60 psi isn't doing it lol looks like im gona have to get a magnet
