I am waiting on a motor I purchased from ebay and when it gets here I want to remove the topend for a visual inspection. The seller says it runs and shifts through all the gears but it smokes so I know there is something wrong with it. I know its probably not the cilynder that is making it smoke but I want to check it out and verify what size piston is in there and that it is ok to run. I have bean reeding alot of posts that have pointed me to a seal problem as the culpret for white smoke so if I am going to be poking around in this motor I want to do it one time and fix everything at once. I want to know if it is ok to reuse the topend gaskets for an inspection or do they have to be replaced and also the covers on the sides of the motor will I need new gaskets for them as well? Should I buy a whole gasket set for this and a seal set as well? I pland on doing the timing mod at the same time what gaskets and sealer will I need for this? I want to order all of the stuff needed before the motor arives this weak I realy want to ride this thing waiting for deliveries has proven to be stressful.

If you dont mind cranking your neck around at a few different angles, you can shine a light through the exhaust port with the piston down and employ a small dentists mirror on a stick to check the bore for scuffing and damage. You may not have to remove the head if all seems hunky dory.
If you do remove the head, use a new gasket and tension down correctly.

Get yourself a gasket set and a couple of main seals, they are cheap enough and wont go amiss.

dont reuse gaskets, its a bad idea, get some quality ones, look for sets with the OEM style graphite base gasket, not the green paper one, better still, get oem gaskets.

Bare in mind that blaster motors do smoke as they are 2 strokes and are designed to burn oil!

Crank seals do go brittle and result in the transmission oil being burnt, this is a problem and will need to be replaced.

I would strongly advise, stripping the motor and checking the seals, as well the bore, i would put new rings in at the very least regardless of the the condition.

OK so I cant reuse the gaskets I kind of thought that but I just wanted to be sure. Will I have to split the case to change the seals or are they all accesible behind the covers?
