chain questions

dont be sorry we are all newbs at one time. i believe the more teath on the sprocket the better top speed you get but the worse low speed you get. the most common gearing is 13/40 or 14/40 and when you get a new chain GET SPROCKETS AT THE SAME TIME. not sure about that link you posted, ive never heard of it but maybe someone else will chime in

i've found the o-ring chains do not last me any longer than non o-ring, 1 season and done, so i save a little $ and get non o-ring, and save a few HP's in the process...yes, o-ring chains rob power.

the ebay link listed above to the blue chain, not sure if color matters, LOL, but i snapped 2 red ones last season,
1 o-ring with about 4 rides on it, and 1 brand new non o-ring didn't make it a 1/2 mile out.
$75 down the drain.
although i ran a green one on my stockish black blaster for 2 seasons

here's what i run now on my white sig blaster....

it's the only set i could find that comes with a full 120 link chain/blaster sprockets and allows me to cut it to length for my +2 swinger or any spocket combo i want

D.I.D, EK, RK, Primary Drive, Renthal, Western Powersports all make good quality chains.
buy a name brand

if it's only offered in stock length, and you want to run 14/40 gearing, or up to a +4 swinger, you can also buy a chain (not sprockets) for a banshee and cut to fit your needs.

That ratio wouldn't be terrible, it is a 41 rear opposed to stock 40. So you wouldn't be losing as much bottom end. However if you are bone stock stay with the stock gearing.

That website is the BEST, after BF of course, but for blaster parts, they have everything. I suggest you buy from there, the one you posted is a NON-O-RING chain, always buy o-ring chains unless you want a bad time. With the gears, 13/40 is a little more power than 14/40, but 14/40 has a tad more speed, so its mainly preference there. I suggest 13/40 just because theres not much difference, and unless you as drag racing, you dont need the extra little speed i dont think.

yea im mostly just mess around on trails and in fields. may go to silver lake this summer so i want to stay stock with the gearing
i just dont see the point of spending $80 on a chain for a $600 quad. but maybe its just my dutch side coming out.

Take note of post 2.

Do not drop a new chain on old sprockets, you court disaster.

I have some sad news for you.

You should never mix old sprockets and chains with new or second hand ones.

They marry for life, and do not take kindly to another partnership.

A new sprocket will quickly wear/stretch or break an old chain, sometimes with disastrous results, parts damage, or personal injury if it locks up the back wheels.

A new chain on an old sprocket can be completly stuffed in a few miles.

Rule of thumb, always replace the whole set, chain, front and back sprockets.
