Well as most of you probably know i got new exhaust and well i need to tune the carb a lil. I have a few other small mods lie cfm air box reeds.(not much). For some reason when i had my dg and a pod filter it ran wayyy rich even with a stock main jet 230 i cleaned it and could never figure out why? but this year i took it to the shop to get a lil work done he said he threw a lil bigger main jet in there well it ran even more rich. I didn't re jet because i knew i was gonna get a new pipe anyway. Well i got the pipe and need a lil advice on what main jet should be good starting point and what clip on the needle.

and the lrd seems to run a lil rich at idle so i might get a vitos needle that makes it run a lil richer with the jet kit im hopefully gettin that includes a 30 pilot.

I WILL DO A PLUG CHOP WHEN THE WEATHER IS BETTER AND I CAN TAKE IT TO A GRAVEL ROAD (THIS WEEKEND).

i would start with like a 300 main shouldnt be a need to play with the needle or pilot for just the mods you have and i think a 30 pilot would be smaller??? there is no way your blaster was runing rich with the stock jet pod filter and a pipe. i would do a compresion test now because riding for long being lean is not a good thing.

dude i know 100% it ran rich leaked like a mofo around the exhaust and the plug was as wet as could be and black and im not runnin lean now i dont think if i am its just a lil and thats why i havent done anything but ride it to see what the plug looked like after i got the pipe (and to see how it felt/sounded)

my sons bike.....very, very mild port job/cleanuP, lrd pipe, open airbox with uni filter, vf3 reeds, stock carb ..........................

stock pilot, 32.5, period
stock needle, middle clip, period
300 main, on it's second seson at those settings, rips pretty good for no porting, yours may vary up or down 1 size at the most

i'll repeat this for the 3rd time today......FUG VITO'S JET KITS and their bullshit "smaller pilots" and "leaner/richer needles", PURE GARBAGE

Yep sounds about right. I am at 320 main right now, and have a richer Vito's needle on the 3rd clip....might go to 2nd(but that's entirely different story), and on the stock pilot for now.

You are not running rich on stock jetting with a pipe. I guarantee it. Unless somebody stuffed a sock up your exhaust, you are running EXTREMELY lean. "wetness" has nothing to do with a plug chop. Put in a larger main like a 300 to start out with and do a plug chop at WOT.....and that means actually "CHOPPING" the threads off and looking at the fuel ring, not puttering around at lower RPMs and looking at the tip of the insulator and ground strap.

i guess ill go with you awk but 99lrdblaster has the vito's needle and im pretty sure he likes it

im hopefully gonna do a plug chop this weekend i know how to do one just never did and go from there i also think when i get port work done im gonna get this carb ported and tors delete

start with a 300. thats what i run with my current mods.. well im in the process of dialing in a 28mm pwk. i have a bunch of jets with the stock carb with thumb throttle in a bag.. matter fact i think im gonna put it up for sale here...:D

Just because I have one, doesn't mean it will work for your setup. Each case is different. Try both the stock and Vito's and see how you like it, but start out with the stock needle first and then you can play with the Vito's later. It's a completely different needle and can change a lot of things in your jetting circuit.

k it makes it richer so i figured it couldnt hurt to throw it in and keep me from puttin a huge main in it

Sorry to barge in off the subject but Demo, you say you run a 300 main? What do you run as far as needle clip and jet pilot? Or should i say did. My mods are prit near identical except i lack after market reeds.

i ran 300 main, stock pilot, and clip in the middle. i also have +4 advanced timing. i think the timing mod alone puts me up by a size or 2 on the main

wheres the pilot go or at???? i just took a pic when its apart

Always start rich and work your way down !! A person needs to listen and follow advice or don't ask what to do. Opinions vary on how to jet. Some start with main and work down, as is my preference. Others go the other way. To those that are new to modifications and jetting you need to read and understand the circuts in the carb and at what throttle opening they effect and how they overlap. Not everyone is going to explain in depth the workings of the carb in answering a post.
JMHO, your results may , and will vary.

ya i know start big and go down and ya i got 280 through 320 jets in the mail. I ordered the 320 because im prob gonna do the timin advance soon

ya im good and ya i know how to jet it. When my dad gets home we are goin and gettin prob 4 plugs to do the plug chops and then put a new one in
