carb is leaking fuel

the carb on my 98 yamaha blaster is leaking fuel. does it need to be cleaned?

if its leaking out the overflow line it may need the float adjusted or a new needle and seat

Probably the needle and seat is old. Try giving the bowl a whack with a piece of wood sometimes that clears it up.

What they said^^. Cleaning isn't a bad idea though. Sometimes they get crap stuck in the needle and seat assy.

Also, if you just had the bowl off, sometimes the needle will get stuck open. A few taps on the side of the bowl with a block of wood or a screwdriver handle usually fixes it. If not, take it apart and clean the needle in the seat!!

thanks im going to just completely clean it, not exactly sure when was the last time that was done, i just bought it last week

alright so i got the leak to stop. but now it wont idle any tips? im guessing i over adjusted the floats. but its such a pain to keep adjusting. lol

yeah, also check air fuel mix, jets clogged, etc, if i was you take the whole thing apart and soak it in carb cleaner

20 - 21.5 mm from where the gasket sits to the top of the floats

It is critical that you don't let the float depress the spring-loaded needle when adjusting float level. I like to hold the carb on it's side and just tip up until the float just kisses it.
