Carb boring??

wouldnt it be cheaper and more economical to sell your 36mm and buy a 38mm? and $75 seems alittle high for carb boring. ive bored a couple stock carbs on my dads south bend lathe and it only takes about 10-15 minutes.

The cheapest i can find a NEW 38mm pwk is about $212.99. Is it a knockoff?
Do i want to buy a used on that my have hidden problems? NO!!!
What can i get for a used 36mm pwk? I dont know, and may be a wast of my time!

What is the advantage of boring out my 36mm pwk? Well i had it from the day it was new and there is NO hidden problems with it, and it will fit in my intake and air box boots!

For $75 may be for more then just the bore, do they do any necessary circuit mods or slide mod?

I dont believe there is any mods required to bore your pwk 36mm.with a stock carb I just bore it then clean it with compressed air and carb cleaner.then its all good to go.and not really sure if you would benefit from boring your carb.what mods do you have?

If you get your carb bored it will decrease the speed of the intake charge.which will cause you to lose low end and pick up power in the mid/top end.but if you are ok with losing bottom end for picking up top end then id go for it.

I know it will decrease the speed of the intake charge, and this was going to be the next discussion. BUT i will ask now!

Will there Divider plate mod increase the velocity of the intake air?

Adding a divider plate will nullify the extra size of the larger bore.

You will be adding just about as much material to the induction area as what was removed with the bore.

Increase the size of the Venturi, the speed of air travel for a given volume will be decreased, and jetting will be increasingly difficult!

Where do you ride that requires so much WOT top end power, surely the 36mm is adequate for your modifications.

Bigger is not always better!

So adding a divider plate to my 36mm pwk will shrink my 36mm bore, and boring the carb out to a 37mm or 38mm or 39mm will add it back! RIGHT?

So doing the Bore and divider plate mods together will give me the benefits of the divider plate and NOT shrink my bore?

The amount that you can bore a carb is limited by the width of the slide. If you bore larger than the slide, you’ll have a gap on each side. I don’t bore any larger than the slide – 1mm. I had a divider plate on my 34 mm Mikuni and couldn’t tell the difference. The stock Blaster carb loves a 1mm over bore. I’ve noticed better throttle response and more power everywhere. The $75 for the bore is about right. The carb needs to be disassembled, set up in a four jaw chuck concentric to the bore, bored, de-burred, cleaned, and assembled. Price is not all about how long something takes. People forget about things like rent, electricity, insurance, tooling, machines, maintenance, and materials. With all that said, Ship that sucker to KOR and I’ll hook you up.
