broke an engine stud!!!!!

even though i had a torque wrench properly set i still broke an engine stud. AHHHHHHHH! is there any way i can fix it my self? if not how much should a shop charge to do it?

should also clarify i dont think it is broke, just let go, i will investigate further though

just called a local shop, he said i should just buy 6 and do it myself with vice grips, anyone done this before, any tips?

i took it apart, i think the threads just let where the nut was. I ordered 6 new studs and i'm gunna do them all next weekend

possibly just a bad stud, during manufacture the grain is upset and if its not allowed to cool correctly it wont last long at all. Bare in mind that when you tighten it you are pulling it apart, so to speak. So its probably just a faulty stud, most are checked through infra-red for distortion, so its going to happen that a few will not get caught.

you will need to fix the threads as bagds101 said heli coils suck I used solid thread inserts

the threads broke off right where they start to push down on the head, not in the jug, so all i should have to do is replace the studs as long as they all come out

ALWAYSSSS replace all at the same time, because they stretch over time even though you had the correct torque the stud could have been beyond its stretch limit.
