Broke 2 reeds in 5 min of ride time.

Without a reed stop the petals could flap around like silk undies on the line in a strong wind. No wonder they are breaking.

thankyou !!!!!

boyesen actually suggests you don't run the stoppers on most of their reeds

boysen can suggest whatever they want, it does not work in the real world,
running any reeds without the stops will eventually lead to "high speed flutter" and the bike will shut down at high rpm's and/or break the petals

they also state in the ad he posted, that the bottom petals are "ported" ????
how the fug can you "port" a flat piece of fiberglass

BOYSEN IS STARTING TO SOUND LIKE KENNEDY

the dual stage reeds are all garbage in my book, boysens, or the vito's re-branded ones
they add ZERO horsepower, they do not flow any more than the reedcage itself can, it just feels that way cause they're so paper thin and open quicker, and are prone to breakage

same as running without the reedstops, once the petal hits the reedstops, it is already open further than the diameter of the reedcage port, opening it any further adds nothing

I feel dual stage reeds have their place, although the may not produce any more HP they seem to be a little zippier in the low/mid range, especially with a DMC pipe.

When it comes to budget the duals are a much cheaper option than VF3s.

As to reed stops, just look at a flag in a strong wind. A reed can resemble that flag without the restraint of a stop, can hinder air flow.

Yeah they do reccomend that thats probably why i did it when i first installed them. But the same reeds lasted a lil over a year like that.

ok just becaue you dont liek something does not mean they are garbage? not every kid can run out and buy VF3's so IMO boyesens are great reeds for the price. i have won plenty of races and whooped plenty of ass with these "garbage, junk, reeds". if they suck sooooo bad how can we explain the success i and many others have had with them? are they top of the line? no. are they a decent upgrade for some kid on a budget, absolutely.

alright, so i was frustrated with his lack of understanding, and went a little overboard, as usual, but i did say "in my book" which is sorta like "alice in wonderland" hahahaaaa

using these without the reedstops is whats causing them to break
guaranteed non-fiction

quote from above...........

without the reedstops

once that reed petel hits the stops, they are already open way further than the reedcage port size, why keep running them without the reedstops and keep breaking them ????

hence why we don't see "remove the reedstops" as a popular performance gain trick, it's never been proven to add sh*t, except a long walk home from broken reeds

lol "alice in wonder land", i guess im just gonna chalk my experience up to good luck and others' to bad luck lol. i have only cracked one once and that was the very first set i bought. since then i have never been let down by them, no breaks, no cracks and i have never used the reed stops. maybe my motor dont have the power to break them? hahahaha :D:D

maybe running them on a ported rad valve makes a difference ????

i've seen at least 5 sets broken personally, 1 set just 2 weeks ago and 2 of my own back in the day, all on stock cages without the stops ???
i wouldnt trust them, i could have one helluva long walk home on this mountain, and i'm gettin too old for that sh*t

hmmm could be i guess, there must be some reason other than dumb luck. and i hear ya, i dont want to walk to get the mail much less off a mountain haha

Well got a set of reeds and stops from zwister for free thanks man. Now it runs great before it had a wierd topend bog now nothing and runs great.

haha, ill most likely run em from now on. the only reason i didnt last time is because i was new and i read the directions and they said not to also i think i heard on here that alot of people dont. I can say i will from now on changing reeds isnt hard but i dont like to change 5 out in a week and a hour ride time.

i got damn good at it lol. But i guess i was doing it wrong with no reed stops haha.

wrong according to who ???? not boysen, they would never tell you wrong, so they could sale more reeds ????

Turns out banshee reeds have the same bolt design but are a few mm to short. Thats what zwister sent me. I just through the under piece to the dual pedal design under em and they sealed up.

oh here we go again, this thread hasnt even died yet and your already jury rigging another set of reeds
go mow the old lady down the street's grass and buy some new reeds

Hey i needed reeds these were free and i had them in hand would of cost more to ship back then they were worth. I tryed them not like it would hurt anything if they failed so why not and they did work so i dont see any jurry rigging goin on here i made do with what i have. What were you doin while you were 15? prob not trying your best on learing motors? Im making do i dont have gobs of money to throw at my bikes and + this is a seller bike anyways. Im hopefully getting a rad valve for my bike.

rad valves are up there on the price arent they? IDK I think Boyesen reeds are for down low and mid and VF3's are more mid to top. I would imagine......both giving healthy increases in putting hair on your @$$ lol
