i bought my blaster about a month ago and i've been riding pretty regularly. the back brake doesn't work at all and hasn't since i've bought it, when i push the brake pedal down it doesn't even move on the brake parts. The fronts were fine but i was just riding this saturday and about two or three hours into it they started just locking up on me. i first thought that maybe some mud got in there and messed things up, but after i sprayed it down really good they're still doing it. also every once in a while the front brakes would make a weird noise kind of a griding noise but it more or less just sounds like metal on metal. anybody come across any problems like this? and is it hard to change the brakes on the blasters cause i wanna go again this saturday but i'm not going to if i'm about to flip over the front of it.

meh who needs brakes lol. i dont have a rear one, but im going to get one. and my fronts barely work, and they lock up when i use them, i have to push the lever back out for them to unlock everytime i use the brakes.

the front brakes are simple to change, and the metal to metal sound ur hearing is defenitly ur brakes being shot, try tapping the rear caliper with a hammer to see if it frees it up, could use just a good cleaning!

you would have to get a bearing puller to take the hubs off. you can go to auto zone and they credit your credit card with the money and when u bring the part back, they cancel the transaction. that is what i did. the back brakes on mine do the same thing, so i'm getting the hydro kit from gts racing via rabbit23. it is one of the best upgrades for the blaster i would say. i'm just using my fronts for the time being because i put new pads in. hope this helps you out.

yeah the rear brakes aren't really that big of a concern but i'd kinda like the support so i don't go over the handle bars trying to stop down hill. but i went to my local yamaha dealer and asked them about it the guy said the back ones might be a cable issue and the front ones might need a good cleaning. i'm gonna try and go out tomorrow and pull them off, what's that about the hub puller? you absolutely need that to take the wheels off i guess?

that's cool there's nothing too technical i gotta worry about when taking the brakes apart is there? i'll have my buddy helping me and he knows a little about this stuff, but i wanna be prepared if somethings just gonna fall out when i take them apart

oh cool that doesn't sound too bad, and you said the pads on the front are pretty much shot that's why they're making that awful noise?

that's pretty cool, i bought the pads for the front and back today, i'm gonna take everything off and clean it up and change the pads and see what's up with the rear one not working what so ever i was told that it might be jammed up by some brake dust or something

well yesterday i changed my front brakes and the back brakes. i guess the problem was the pads on the front because it seems to be working a lot better now. the back one must have not been changed since new cause it was totally clogged up with dirt grass and god knows what. we got that one changed too with a little more effort than the front ones but it seems to be working okay now. i have another question though, how much stopping power should the back brake offer? mine doesn't seem to have a lot but it does work to an extent.

when you put new pads on, you have to ajust them, on the handle bars on youre front brake theres two screw things the bottom one helps ajust your back

after i cleaned and replaced my backs they still didnt work well so i had to get a motion pro short brake cable...........it gets rid of the parking brake but jus connects straight from the pedal to the caliper

That motion Pro shorty cable is a night/day difference... Like REEDracing said it eliminates the rear parking brake, but it can actually lock up the rears... This $35 fix is great compared to converting to hydro.
