K so nothing has been done to the engine, WHEN it was removed it was running great....clutch exploded but has been fixed.. i washed engine at car wash...plugged holes..starts excellent wont idle and if cruising at low speed it just cuts out. things i have done..CLEaned jets..passages...filter good...removed tors..runs like it should up top but if you try to cruise at low rpm it just cuts out..wont idle and when it dies sometimes pops..oh i also checked the key..cleaned pick up incase of rust. checked ground and coil..i havent changed plug and the gas has been in there 3-4 months....wtf....

get a new plug, change the gas, mix 32:1, and your air fuel is off thats where the popping is coming from, mine did it too when i was tuning it, no more than 1-2 turns out, it could be something else, check the stator?

RUNS excellent as long as u are in in. takes off great so i dont think its mixture screw. only pops when it dies..key is good..ya if cruising along 1/4 throttle it stops...engine just like it turns off for a sec then picks back up..

those are exactly the symptoms you'd get if the airscrew was maladjusted.
turn it in to a light seat (don't crank on it hard) then turn it back out to about 1 1/2 to 2 turns out.
see if that makes her idle better. make sure to check the plug after about a min idle.
also it could be that your idle is just too low.

i have checked and cleand alll jets multiple times...ya it sounds like clogged pilot to me also...put it wasnt...are screw has also been alll the way in and backed out..the throttle response is excellent...i dunnooo....

this is one of the reasons why i always gripe about the old school tm flatslides... run fine one day ,like crap the next ,that carb has made many a stroke owner chase his tale to get things running consitant .the slide is made of mild aluminum ,the body is also soft aluminum after 20 years of up and down action they wear so bad air gets right by it and causes free rev ,erratic lowend ,hard starts and airleaks.also they are too adjustable and too much can be off to really fine tune them by ear

YES i agree with you on the flatslide, however i have mine running excellent. this is sugars bike with stock carb....tors removed with idle screw on side

well, it could def be the fuel. fuel goes bad after about 90 days. usually it still combusts, but not as well. maybe you're just missing some, have you tried draining the tank and carb and giving her some freshies?
other than that, maybe try increasing the idle speed. or check the reed cage; make sure the gaskets are good and that the reeds are aligned properly.

no, bike wass mint before tear down. never took intake boot off...remember runs xcellent wot...if reeds were jacked it would not... but i am gettin desparate...i hear there is a jet in the throat by filter end....i will have to check that... but i did shoot cleaner through mixture hole??? could this be the prob??

not always .. if the tips are chipped or one is partialy cracked it will be hard ot start have poor lowend response and youd probably not feel it on topend when they are wide open at high rpm,not saying thats the issue here but something worth checking

is your flywheel key partialy sheared and the time is off slightly ? has the stator bolts come loose on you ?

i pulled the flywheel yesterday and key was good...didnt check stator screws... i will though...usually when they come loose the flywheel eats the coils...not hard to start at all. first kick it starts...i will check these thngs though...i am befuzzeled..

i had the same type of issue, i spent a couple weeks working on it, and never thought to take the reeds back out, but then i did, and i checked them and they were cracked, not to the naked eye i had to pop the middle out and actually detach the reeds and inspect them, the bike would run, idle perfect, it was sluggish in first then pick up and go to second, then sluggish again and died. i mean i had countless hours in this thing. and in the end all i had to do was check the reeds....don't make the same mistake and miss out on lots of riding!!

When my reeds were messed up it ran wot fine but wouldnt idle from sh..
Also i would check the tors again ,maybe a wire is loose somehere.
