Boost bottle?

i had an 87 banshee. did just about all you could do to it, twice probably.

i had access to a dyno, and we had questioned the bottle, around 95.

i was about to go to a trinity 2 into 1 carb set up, and bill, my race partner said lets

document the diff from the stock 2 carbs, the twin 34's and the single 54 carbs.

i can tell you for a fact, that with the stock carbs and boost bottle, we lost a 1hp

with the 34's, we lost THREE!!!! yes 3 hp!!!

going to the single 54 we gained 9 hp over stock.

now mind you, all this was tested with some seriously ported and polished jugs, and one of

the very first cool heads available, only had choice of 2 sets of domes.

also it was 10mm stroked and the cool head was shaved.

o yea, that banshee pulled harder then anything i ever rode till i got my raptor

4.25 gal of gas burned in less than 30 min!!!

like it was said, put a cork in that bottle and use it for a flask

It depends. All they are ment for is to boost bottom throttle responce. But todays carbs are pretty good along with intake.Idk the bikes back in the day came factory with it.My 490 it came with it.But yes cant see it doing anything unless your running a huge carb with no bottom end responce. You half to tune for its use but yeah more looks than use.You can just use a spacer to gain bottom end for thows guys out there running huge carbs with a inferior clasic design.Yeah but what do I know my carb is still the mukini stocker just jetted for a pumped up motor with liquid metal and wire banding holding the cap on........Yes NOW THATS A RED NECKI:I.But I do have a 33kiehin dg on the way.No need for any thing bigger. Its effiecient.B)

Im guilty i got one on my shee for extra bling if nothing else.

I dont have plans to race it just have fun out in the country here so im not too worried about a loss in hp.

Although id love to read a reputable shop/builder/company's dyno tests on the infamous boost bottle. On a banshee i dont see it as much more than a glorified balance tube so i dont see how it would lose power care to explain why?

From what I'd gathered from MacDizzy's site, It's like the head pipe on the exhaust only for the intake side. Basically it's for tuning the out the dip in power in the lower rpms caused by the reeds resonating and allowing the intake air to double dip the carb for fuel.
If you ever looked at the power curve of the blaster there's a dip around 5,000 rpm or so. This is the were the reeds resonate at allowing the air to move in and out.
Let's try thinking of the air like water, If you have the water on at full blast then shut the water off rapidly, you might hear the pipes bang.
This would basically be the same principle for the air, But if you put this tuned bottle on it could soften this blow. They have a fittings for water line that does just that, But uses air pocket to soften the water hammering the pipe.
Now I'm not saying it makes mad hp, But I under stand the principle.
And I would like to see what diff there is with and with out a tuned boost bottle could make. But like any kind of tuned length of pipe there are pros and cons, sacrifice that is made for power else where.

i 100% agree!!!!

Im not one for jumping on the band wagons but i too understand agree with what its supposed to do and as i said id love to see reputable dyno tuning with and without.
