Hey guys I think i might have blown a piston ring on my quad last storm....Idk what exactly it was that caused it but I was riding with one of my good friends and all of a sudden the compression on the top end just went down dramatically. Im almost positive that its the piston ring...meaning that the piston ring cracked and air flow is getting into the chamber......any suggestions on what it is would be much appreciate because money is mad tight right now and i dont wanna buy the piston kit and then it not be that. Thanks alot p.m's and messages will be very thankful pz guys.I:I

i'd say just take the jug off and check that situation out to be sure as not to spend any unwanted $.....thats what happened to me.......and sure as hell my piston was smashed and the rings were halve gone......best is to pull that jug

+1 for sure then go from there

Indeed!^^ Screw that gauge in, hold the throttle wide open, and kick it over. Get your compression reading first and go from there. Anything below about 130psi indicates wear or a problem. If you've got a stuck or broken ring, you may struggle to hit 50psi on the gauge after several kicks.

If the compression is indeed weak or next to nil, THEN pull your head/jug off for an inspection. Hopefully, you just ran lean, overheated, and either scored it out or stuck a ring. Both of these conditions can usually be repaired with just a bore job and piston/gasket kit. Don't forget to have your machinist chamfer the ports after the boring. I:I

yeah when you say the compression went really low how do you know? what happened? did it lock up or anything or just lose power and die? or dramatic lose in power? :)
