Well you have to find out what size jets are in there. I like the TORS removal kit because it eliminates that big dumb brick and the cable. You don't have to eliminate it, but you do need to check jetting.
Ya I know the previous owner didn't know much about quads. I'm lucky I got it cheap so it's a learning experience. The reason why the piston blew apart was because the oil block off was open on the carb. And yet when you put a brake cable as a throttle cable really leads me to believe he didn't know them.
So I tore apart the other carb I had and am looking at the jets, I have no idea how to tell what they are. I am tearing into the other one as soon as I'm done this. Sorry for the bad pics my iphone is terrible.
The jets will have a number stamped on them either on the side or on the top flat section. You also need to unscrew the pilot thats next to the main you already pulled off and see what size that is as well. That main looks pretty nasty.
I gave you some bad info. The number will be on the bottom of the main jet (Opposite of the threads) The pilot jet will have it stamped on the side. You need to do a good cleaning on those jets and the carb.
that's your pilot. What does your main say? that's the little one that hexagonal, the number should be on the top where the little hole is. sometimes it's hard to see.
Depending on your engine mods, that may or may not be to big of a main. I would not worry about the main till you get it running. The main only is used for 3/4 to full throttle anyway. Its the pilot jet you need to worry about. Between the pilot and air/fuel screw, those are what start the bike and allow the bike to run from idle to 1/4 throttle.
