Hey guys needs some help. I have a 94 blaster that will not kickstart. Can jump start all day but will kill you trying to kickstart it. I just replaced the spark plug and air filter. Once it is running runs well but still wont kickstart after running it for a while. Any Ideas? Oh yeah NO Mods.

Does it not engage at all or is it very hard to kickstart. I can think of the following

Clip came off of kickstart. Need to remove the clutch cover and drain oil ( check for debris).

Is the bike in nuetral. Does it want to move foward as you kick start it. It may be a clutch adjustment. Any additional info would be helpful including any previous work done to the quad.

No prvious work has been done that I am aware of. The kickstart seems to be working correctly, catches ok and turns the motor just wont start up. It is just hard to get it to start with the kickstart. It is in neutral and does not jump forward.

Hello,

So if you can "push start it" we can eliminate the electronics and fuel issues.
I dont know why the Kickstarter doesn't work because its the same motion as push starting it. Check compression as well and report back. Maybe someone else will chime in

I am defintely kicking hard enough. This might be stupid question but if the compression was bad wouldnt it affect it when its running. Once its running it runs great?

you can have low enough compression that makes it hard to kick start for sure. Can you feel the compression difference when you slowly kick it? You can try to push it with your hand, it should be fairly hard to push it all the way down.

Ok, after pushing the kickstart down with my hand it does seem to get a little easier as I go down. Does this mean i need to rebuild the top end and if so what exactly does that entail. Do I just need to replace the gaskets or is this somethig i would need an actual machine shop to etc..

well you need to get a compression tester, see what it is at and see if you need to rebuild, if you do you need to take the top end off, inspect and see if it needs a bore/hone job, which a machine shop does need to do, but you can rebuild urself

just get a full kit from the parts store. the $35 one comes w/ like 5 adapters.
also another reason could be the idle screw being set way too fast. when at idle, your bike should sit just fast enough to not cut off. if your bike revs real high at idle, try turning the idle screw counterclockwise.
have you adjusted your throttle cable recently? you might have adjusted it too tight.
also, if you rebuild the top end, i highly recommend boring over to the next step up. if you just replace the rings and hone, you'll have too much piston play and you WILL eventually have a chewed up skirt. which will lead to a bottom end rebuild. just drop the extra dough on a bore/hone and a new wiseco piston. you should only need to go 0.010" over.
might as well replace all the gaskets while you're at it. INCLUDING the exhaust gasket which everyone always forgets.

I checked the compression and it was at about 129. So if the compression is good what else could it be?

In my previous response i assumed that a 129 psi compression was good. Is this the case, what should the compression be?

but also check jets, clogged fuel filter in petcock/ tank, check float height, replace spark plug, just go through the easy stuff first if that doesn't work then you dig deeper.
