Hey everybody, i just signed up for this forum today and wanted to know a couple things. I was planning on trading my 1999 yamaha yz125 for a 1997 yamaha blaster with some upgrades on it. Does this sound like a good deal ??? Is there anything that i should look for on this year of bike before i make the trade ???

just give it a good once over. look for damaged frame. cracked welds on the frame. wiggle the front wheels and check for play in the bearings. examine the sprockets for substantial wear. make sure it runs good and shifts through all the gears correctly.

thats just the tip of the iceberg so to speak... theres alot more to check, but just use your best judgment.

it would be close to an even trade. if you want a blaster it would be worth doing. but like flooded say, check it over.
also check things like the air filter, spark plug, oil, all bearings (carrier and swingarm), play in tie rods (turn the handlebars)

right on. theres so many things to check over... but you really cant check everything all at once and without ripping into it. take a gamble if you really want to ride on 4 wheels.

Im not sure what to expect from a blaster though, becuase ive never saw anybody with one and im not sure if itd have enough power for me. Im 5'7 and 190lbs and im used to having quite a bit of power below me.

it should rip around pretty good with you on it. take her for a test ride and see what you think before yo make the trade.

Well ive read up on them and it seems like once you get a couple upgrades on them they really go, but it seems like theyre a pain in the ass to look after.

oh yeah they can really move once you mod them I:I and they are extremely reliable once you get them to that point and keep up on teh maintance.

Thanks for all the info... ill let you know if i end up getting it or not. Depends on if the guy still has it when i get home or not, but i hope i do cause they seem like fun.

hell yeah they are great, especially when you mod tehm and start whooping 400's with a little 200 muahahaha I:I I:I

what 2-stroke isn't a pain in the ass to maintain? there is always something with every quad or bike. but regular maintance is key. just make sure you check it over before each ride and you will be happy with it.
