like i said in some of my earlier post my uncle is giving me a 89 blaster but its been sitting for at least a year what do i need to get it running or is everything is fine since it been under a tarp

I would drain the trans oil and gas. Clean the carb and air filter. Leak down test. Change the plug and dump a couple of spoon full of 2 stroke oil in the plug hole. Check that the brakes work before you ride.

O Boy Don't Get This Kid Confused , No Water Pump haha , And Yes It Is Air cooled ,
I Would Suggest Drain All Fluids Replace With Fresh , Clean Carb Out And Check The Spark Plug And Replace If Needed , After That Try and Start it , If it Does Run , Then I Would Not ride it Just Yet , Get A Leak Down Test Kit , Do The Leak Down Test , If all Is Good with leak down , Then check Your Brakes ,Maybe Do a Once Over On All The Major Nuts and bolts You can Do Then Go From There !

If it still has oil injection, make sure tank is full, if not mix gas/oil 32:1. Reason for little oil in plug hole is cause it's dry. Roll it over to TDC (piston to top), pour oil in, let set for hour or so, then kick engine over couple times to get rid of excess, with plug out.

If the motor has been sitting for a while I would be pulling off the reeds and dropping some 2 stroke oil in the crancase.

The crank and rod bearings are going to need a little oil as well, as they are going to be a little dry after not having an oil bath for a year.

There needs to be at least 1/8 of an inch of good oil in the bottom of the crankcase, so that the crank can throw around some oil to lubricate the crank and rod bearings.

You got off lucky kid, blasterBruce took pity on you. Sitting under a tarp, you might want to check the exhaust for a rodent's nest or bee nest...they like shelter from the elements.

Definitely nut and bolt it, and replace the fluids like everyone is recommending. Why did it sit for a year? There might be something else going on there, that Uncle isn't telling you....Blasters are fun to ride and I don't see why he would let it sit, they make your urine turn a nice shade of red the first couple times....just kidding.

he was riding and it cut off and he didnt wanna bother with it so he just put it under a tarp buti will try and get it running

Yeah, I would start by investigating why it quit. Leave switch off and just step on the kicker to see if it moves...if not, it's seized. If that checks out ok, you've just gotta do your due diligence as explained prior and start troubleshooting. Where ya from? Maybe a local BF brother can help you out.

Yes I Went Easy On Him, But At least a Few More People chimed In And Helped , I'm sure When He Starts With It He Will Be Back With Allot More Questions And Concerns !

Sounds like possible detonation to me, might be seized up. Don't be surprised if you get it and the kicker doesn't move. If it does, go ahead and do what everyone is telling you to do, it'll need a little re-freshening after sitting for a year.

Sorry for the delay but the kicker IS moving im going to take the exhaust off and then look down in there! thanks for the help and thanks for going easy on me blasterBruce lol

No Problem , Let us know what it looks like inside , If you tear it down take as many pics as you can , in case you forget how it goes back, or just post on here and someone will chime in !
