Hi guys, so I was going to put my blaster on ebay the other day but thought i would take it for 1 last spin the other day, when i got out after a couple of hours it spluttered and died, i put it down to being out of fuel so loaded onto the trailer and set off home, when i went to put some fuel in yesterday i realised it had about 3/4 of a tank of fuel and when i tried to start it, it fired up first kick.. which if it was out of fuel it wouldnt of...

so i took it out again today and it rode fine then spluttered again and died, i left it for a minute then it fired up again and rode good, then a while later it did the same and again and again... what do you thinks wrong with it? I was thinking maybe the reeds?

when it died as it was rolling to a stop i tried to bumb start it but it wouldnt so i dont know what was up? even now it will fire up fine and run for a while...

so im thinking maybe reeds? i dont know :-/

thanks for the help!

It won't run well, cold or hot, if the reeds are damaged or not sealing correctly. I'd be willing to bet your fuel tank vent is not functioning correctly. There is a one-way check valve in the gas cap which allows air to enter the tank durning normal operation, but prevents fuel from spilling in the event of a roll-over.

This valve can pack up, preventing air from entering the tank and causing the fuel system to vacuum-lock. When this happens, fuel ceases to flow from the tank to the carburetor until the vacuum in the tank gradually dissapates.

Take your gas cap off the next time the engine starts acting up. If you hear air rushing into the tank or the engine suddenly wakes back up, you've found your problem.

/\/\/\ thats an often overlooked problem, good call braaap

besides the above mentioned causes...........
i'm gonna suggest sticking floats, try tapping the float bowl to jar them loose next time it acts up ?
but i'm hoping this isn't heat related...airleak/partial seizures ?
does this only happen when the engine gets hot ???

Try those things, that others suggested. They are the simple things to check out/ and easy to resolve.

I hope it is something simple for you. oddly, it reminds me of my old kx80.

Started up, ran good for a bit and it would just slowly bog down and die. then wouldnt start for about 30 minutes. I hope your issue is not what I had with the kx80.

I had a blown engine, but I would not know it, until that started happening. back then I didnt think of a compression check, and off to the shop it went. they found out and for my b-day. I got new parts !! lol. it was my first rebuild at the age of 13.

But surely hope its, something simple. Keep us posted and good luck.

Well, It has a. Hose on that thing I took from another quad with a one way valve, and I took it off when it played up earlier and no change, and I don't think it's over heating because all in all I was only out for 2 hours earlier AMD it first happened only about 45 mins into riding and it's only across flatground...

if it has an airleak, or starving for fuel, it can overheat and seize just sitting there, no hard riding needed, just sayin.

on the stock fuel cap, the one way valve is inside the cap, loosen/remove the cap, not just the hose, next time it acts up

Okay, I'll have a look at the cap tomorrow make sure it isn't jammed and I'll check the reeds and the plug and if all seems ok I'll take it for a ride and when it does it I'll remove the cap.

Okay, when having a look at it today i realised the extra valve i put on it which is caonnected to a hose i had put on the wrong way! so it wasnt sucking nor blowing either way so ive put that the right way, ive also got a new spark plug on the way..

Im gonna try test it to see if it was just the valve and when i shake the lid i can hear it move and i also tried blowing through make sure it works okay and it does, BUT why would it start now and not before since ive riden it for a few weeks with the hose on??
