Hey guys. I've been looking at a bunch of posts for the past few weeks and just want to know what your opinions are on a couple of my ideas. I don't have a lot of knowledge in the motor build area but know I can learn.(ex: I don't know alot if I had a stroker and ported head build what the compression would be, and the fuel/oil mixture)

My 02' blaster is completely stock but I'm going to have to rebuild it eventually. I'm not racing the quad and I don't care about being the fastest but do want great reliability!! So here are my options I've narrowed it down to...

1.) CT Racing 240cc kit (way damn expensive)

2.) DT200 swap (VERY rare to find, but I think would maybe be my best bet)

3.) Build with:
Wiseco .02" over piston
Hinson clutch basket
3 reed valve system
Keihin 28mm carb.
Nology spark wire
Flotek ported head
LRD complete exhaust
etc... (those are the main mods.)
I have 14/40 gearing that I will put on with any of the options
and will do an oil injection block off

let me know what you think about these:
I have heard Vito's 240cc kit is bad because it gets way too hot otherwise I might consider that an option.

My blaster gets hot as all H**L after an hour of running! Should I buy a water cooled head? I've heard theres no need but everybody says different.

What everyone says helps alot!! ThanksI:I

why buy the piston? are your piston or rings blown?
if you can afford the ct kit, that's obviously the best route, but if you're on a budget like me, i'd go w/ route 3 because you can take small bites out of it at a time.
as far as the pipe choice. i'd recommend talking to whomever you plan on getting the p&p from. if you go w/ flotek, call him up and tell him what kinda riding you do, what kinda port you want and he should be able to tell you what kinda pipe will work best w/ that exhaust port.
you can also ask kennedy_power. i just got my jug and head back from him (haven't install or ridden yet) and he's extremely well educated, answered all my questions and knows all the exact science of tuning our engines.
he's run thousands of dyno runs and has tested most of the different pipes out there.

the vitos kit is just fine, just replace the piston with a fordged piston and you will be fine. i dont have one yet but my brother and I have been talking to wildcard about building our engines and he says it will be fine. but, a P&P would deffently be the best bang for your buck from either flotek or wildcard.

i agree 100% with guam on the pipe thing. it would be the first thing i would buy, regardless whether u go with the 240 kit or not. the pipe is quite a mod for a blaster, and all the other mods you do are helped by the pipe, so each one will seem like an even greater addition in power compared to if you were running the stock pipe, and a 240 would run like absolute crap with a stock pipe.

but, as you can infer from guam's post, you have to remember your engine is a system, not just and assembly of parts. you have to built it right so that mods support other mods. if you got a pipe built more towards low end, then got a drag port (for top end) it wouldn't work that great.

the vitos 240 kit is just fine. just make sure like mentioned above get a forged piston. weisco makes one for vitos that you can get. make sure you get a nice port and polish. a pipe will make a world of difference even if it is a lower end pipe like and FMF.

I really wasn't expecing all the vito answers! but if everyone is confident on that then I'll just do that. Especially for the price/performance ratio! CT Racing's kit is too expensive and the DT200 swap is near impossible to find so this seems like a good option. For the exhaust I'm actually thinking about Trinity Racing because they're full exhaust system doesn't concentrate in one area I heard, it helps over the entire rpm band. I guess the only question now is the head... the head porting is cheap (Flotek's website prices were around ~$150), but the Vito's kit already has a ported head I thought? So what would be the advantage of a port and polish? does it keep engine temps down? (and yes I'll go with the wiseco piston kit for vito's kit, and I'm thinking about going with the Vito's +3mm stroker assembly too now. Torque is GOOD!) btw thanks for helping out everybody!

PM flotek and ask him abou the P&P. he will P&P your head to fit your reed and system and exhaust system. also get the +3 stroker kit. since your going the build you might as well upgrade your carb, timing advance and all that good stuff.

if you can find the dt200 then do that but other then that if heard some good stuff from the vito kit the ct kit comes with everything you would need tho

Thanks guys. After reviewing for hours and hours, I think I'm going to go with the Vito's kit, Wiseco piston kit for it, vito's +3mm stroker kit and get my head ported by Flotek to match the combustion needs for the stroker kit too (aggressive trail port I decided on). Also advance my timing and do all my other upgrades according to what I want (35mm airstryker carb., etc...) and what Flotek thinks will work best. CT Racing's kits are too expensive for my taste and I can't get a DT200 kit anytime in this lifetime. Thanks again.

and if anybody has any other advice please let me know! I won't be going through with the entire project until I get school paid off in December.

Hello Topher, if you are serious about building a 240cc cylinder with a +3mm crank, I will set you up with one that will out run any other kit out there. and the price will be much cheaper.
Send me a private email with your name and phone number and we can talk about price and whatever else you might want to know.
