I recently bought an 01 Blaster from a guy that said the engine was bored over to a 250..The bike had the stock pipe, stock carb stock everything but said the engine was modded..It also had no air filter on the bike and he said he recently put a new piston and rings in it but doesnt look like its been apart..He doesnt know what size piston it is and i think he was full of crap..Anyways wanted new exhaust, carb and reeds but not knowing what size the piston really is rather than tearing it apart and having to put the money all into it was looking for an engine and carb setup ready to slap in and go..Anyone out there that could help me out..Reallky appreciate it..
This is my first post long time viewer and really impressed with everyone helping each other..The 3 weeks i have been on here viewing opened up a giant bite mark from the ATV Bug:-D..Thanks Guys for any Help..Kurt

I dont want to mess with it i want something to put in and rebuild the engine later down the road..I will have to spend the money to rebuild it so I would rather get something ready to go..Thanks for replying...Kurt

Oh sorry Im looking for an engine ,transmission ,and carb ready to bolt in..Basically going to take this one and redo it but basically needed something in its place so i can get to riding instead of having to take the time with what i got when maybe i can find someone that has it all ready to bolt in...Kurt

oh so you want a stock blaster engine to put in while you buld the engine that is in your blaster right now?

i would check ebay, heck the for sale section. i know a memeber was trying to get rid of an engine for a while

Well just spent the money to get this blaster so all I can afford is some V3 Reeds and a jet kit for now and just use the stock pipe for now..My main jet in the carb looks like it says 240..You think it will work for now? Thanks Man really aareciate the advice..Im new at all this so please bare with me thanks again Kurt

try not to let these jet kits fool you, u dont really need that now, your 240 main will work fine, and even if u want to change your main jet they are only like 5 bucks

um how does your plug look. did you do a plug chop? it might be running just fine. reeds are a good addition, but really i would buy a pipe first. dont get a jet kit, just buy individual jets as you need them.

the whole problem i have is i dont know a single peorson that woud go to allt he work to put a 240 in their blaster, and run it with stock pipe, carbs, and so on.

are you sure he just didnt bore it 0.050 over standard bore?

good luck.

Im really not sure if he did anything at all..Prolly said that to hype up the sale..He was original owner supposedly but never did anything to the bike that i could see..The bolt to drain the tranny looked like it was chewed on and the tors is still connected but used bolts to block off oil injector on the engine..I bought the bike because he said it just needed a rider and didnt relize it was a Can of worms...I will get a pipe..Thanks guys again for the quick responses..Kurt

What pipe would you suggest? Just cleaned the carb and ready to reassemble..Since I bought the bike it was ridden only 500 feet before the rear caliper locked up..Something else to F with..Thanks Kurt

ahh to bad. if you have unlimited money i would say a factory 7 or a toomey. but if you are on a budget like the rest of us an FMF or soemthing like that will work.

as far as your rear brake locking up. take it apart, lean it out really welll and use a heavy greese in there. like marine greese. make sure the caliper goes in and out smoothly.

Ya I already took it apart and cleaned it up and lubed it up with some wheel bearing grease..It was moving nicely but I still have the Parking brake cable on the Handle bars still hooked up to the foot brake and from what i hear its best to run the shorty cable would work better supposedly..Thanks again!!Kurt

Is there anyway to pop the top of that head off and get a look at the size piston without having to tear the motor completely apart..Just wanted to see what Im dealing with so I know which way to go..Appreciate all the help thus far..Great Peeps here..Kurt

Yeah dude, there are 6 nuts around where the spark plug is on top of the motor, alls you have to do is take them off and than u are at ur cylinder, depending on the pipe you will or will not have to take it off to get the head off... i didnt have to with my fmf, but did with
stock

Just remeber to put them back on tighhht, and dont forget the gasket if you take it off, it is a coper piece inbetween the head and cylinder.

Thanks Man Really appreciate it..So far everything seems really easy so far..Cant really afford a shop to do it..I take my bike there for one thing and
He finds a bunch of other things to fix that i cant afford and he always tells me to fix everything at once so everything wears the same..Thanks Kurt

Hey Guys just got the head off and on top of the piston there is an X and just an arrow pointing towards the front and thats it..There were no #s or anything..This guy lied to sell this bike as a 250cc bore kit what a Dick..Oh well guess i just got to do it myself..I just wish people were more honost about selling things with problems granted the buyer should know what to check but alot of times its hard especially when you go and test the bike theres no gas in it..Thanks Kurt

well how are you really going to know what you are buying unless he has proof on paper, of your rip the head off yourself and look. i dont know of may guys that would let you take apart their quads to see what is is bored over. I have never seen some with a 250cc blaster with stock pipe, silencer, reeds, carbs. yada yada.

he may be one of theos guys that is confused. he thought when he put a new piston in it it was a 250c, but really he only got it 0.050. some people make that mistake.

michanics are always gonna be like replace this replace that. its their job to make money like that.

you will lean if you just try that you will lean how to work on your own blaster. they are really easy and truth be told most parts are held on by 2-6 bolts total.

Ya hoping to order my exhaust tomorrow..Im sure you get asked alot but where is the cheapest place besides ebay for an FMF exhaust or does anyone know any for sale with a powercore || silencer..Im also looking for some reeds to replace the stock ones..These look original and curved up and are covered with rust..Are the Boyesen reeds using the stock screws and basket single stage reeds work? Thanks again Kurt
