well i just grabbed a set of shee front shocks that are very clean. i got them for cheap but they have yellow springs so im wondering whats the best way to paint the springs and whats the best paint to use. And any ideas on how to mask off the rest of the shock so over spray doesnt get on other parts of the shock, thanks

Remove the springs, and get them powdercoated. Will look nicer than anything you can do with a spray can and will last longer.
Also, if the shock is chrome or alum. you can always polish it up with some sandpaper and a cloth.

yea i agree but im trying to keep it on the cheap and mayb see if we can get anyone to chime in that has painted the springs using a can and the results. ive heard someone did it before and they said it came out good and they only did a quick tape off. any pics of painted shocks r welcome...

Take the spring off the shocks. It isn't that hard to do and worth it.
Once over, sand the shocks down to get off any rust or unwanted things.
Next use a can of primar spary paint. Make sure to get all of the spring.
Then use a can of spray paint of the color of your choice and put on like two layers.
Finally use a can of clear coat and put on a layer or two.
This should last a some time and would look good if the paint is good and if it is done right.

a member on here just got a powdercoating gun not to long ago ,take the springs to a local spring shop and have them separate them for you, then send them off .look up d.jackson_12 hes got the gun

If you pay the shipping both ways.... I will remove your springs powder coat them, and return them to you with a 2 day turn around time... As long as I have the color you want.

Let me know if you are interested.. I have powder coated my sons Works Shock with great results.

Thanks for steeling our work Tim! J/K we have not even set it up yet.

I would not steal anyones work especially you guys. If it is cheaper to send it to you then go for it.. I have alot of work ahead of me this winter anyways with snowmobiles around here, and my kids quad needing powder work.

um im gonna try and paint them my self and see how it comes out then if its bad ill let you know. im not sure how much it is to ship them back and forth but prob more than i wanna spend but thanks though.

well shox came and are in real real good shape almost look brand new. i began cleaning springs and lightly sanding to roughen up surface and taping them off. i should have them done by tom. hopefully and will see how they came out.
