Best way to keep an eye on you engine?

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I just wondered what is the best thing you can buy to keep an eye on your engine whilst riding?

Is the trail tech any good or is there anything better on the market? I'm thinking engine temp, EGT's etc.

Any info would be great

If your engine is in good order, there is no need to watch temp or anything while riding

if you have an air-tight engine, properly jetted, and oil injected or mixed your engine will do fine

a blaster engine has done the 500 mile desert race and set the world record for the two-stroke quads. and im sure they did not have monitors

Thanks for the response, my engine has always been ok and never caused any problems but it was just an idea I had, more of a precautionary thing really. I started thinking more about this after seeing a member on here fit something that had an EGT gauge on it and it got me thinking that it wouldn't hurt to see how the engine is actually doing.

I think the best way to monitor your engine is to know your bike. Know what it sounds like when running spot on. Know what rich and lean sound like. Know what the exhaust should look and smell like.

Best advice is leak test a couple times during riding season. Keep up on maintenance.

If you hook up any diagnostics type stuff they Will essentially be dummy lights, by the time they show signs of trouble damage will be done.

Along with leak testing, the understanding that changes in temperature, humidity and elevation may need the jetting to be changed.

All pretty good answers, but to say a EGT is a dummy light is not true at all. Get a digitron with fast probes you will know in a flash of your jetted properly. But you must use it and read plugs before you can go off of temp readings as ALL engines differ.
