I was wondering whats the best way to break in a motor cuz the guy i gave my jug to, to get it bored he said on the first tank of gas just let it idle, senond tank ride it but go easy and therd tank i can do whatever so i just wanted to c what u guys think?

Definietly not idle for the first tank of gas or meltdown!

I had to go 7 minutes idle blippin throttle every 20ish seconds, before the cylinder heated up enough. then it took almost 2 hours to completely cool. Then I'll repeat this four more times,

Letting it cool completely- It takes way more than thirty minutes if ya don't have a fan blowing on the cylinder.

The first rebuild I followed that first post but it didn't work good for me, to be fair I was new at this and had other issues.- bob

I ran mine two heat cycles for about 15 minutes a piece at idle with low throttle blips (not because I felt it did anything but because I was so darn excited) and then I tore out!

I've done two quads this way to far with good results. One 4 stroke and one 2 stroke.

I just pulled my engine down after about 50 hours and still had 125 PSI. The piston had a little bit of crud just under the rings but overall was very clean. I recommend his method.

^^^^^ that's how I've always done it :} And that's been alot of 2 stroke engines!

can you elaborate on that a bit. what temp am i trying to get to durring the heat cycles? also should i just go out and beat the piss out of it? or should i just run it up to wot and then engine brake down and do it over and over?

Just like sicivicdude said...I do 2 heat cycles until the engine is hot to the touch and let cool down. Then I give er sh*t. For the first tank I just don't hold it wide open for long. All builders say differant ways, so maybe ask Ken what he recommends. I will say I re-ring my sons blaster at least once a month and a new piston every other and all I do is heat cycles and off he goes :} I feel like I need to post a disclaimer...lol

Kgibson has got it. I let it idle for about 15 minutes and cool back off twice. After that I go out and beat on it. I literally ride it like I stole it!

Just don't hold it wide open for too long or lug it too long either. Let it pull back down on its own and ride it hard. Anything and everything!

In case he doesn't this is what he told me when I asked him about the way I do it. He said and I don't quote....It will reduce ring life but since you re-ring often you will be fine. If you were to do it and expect to last 3 or 4 yrs it wouldn't.
