I am going to be ordering a new air filter really soon. Would removing the lid and using an outerwear or using a clamp on type with an outerwear be my best option or just go back with stock to avoid rejetting issues? Not gonna ride anywhere wet and not particularly dusty. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

The first mod i ever did to mine was removing the air box lid and put a Dura-Blue filter on it It made a world of difference in the response and power. If you want maximum airflow go with a K&N or similar type clamp on. I personally dont like them because they seem to let too much crap through...Love my Dura Blue though...Its tough.

if you do a clamp on right off the carb be sure not to go threw any water , or mud.
i would just put a k&n in the airbox and get a outerwears cover for it

I did the K&N factory replacement filter w/ outerwear and an EHS airbox lid. This would give you the flow needed and the ability to not limit where you can ride. To save some money you could easily modify your airbox to work like the EHS lid for less than $30. There have been a couple of people on here that have done this mod. I did not want to dick with it so I bought mine for $80.

Thanks for replies. specialized7 do you have any pictures or directions on how you made your custom lid? Burning oil 2001, what did you have to change with your jetting?

I believe I went a little rich for reliability. If I remeber right I am running a 270 main and I went one clip lower on the needle (richer) along with taking the gutts out of my silencer. Feels like I gained a couple of hp and it runs much better.

specialized7, thanks man that will be sweet...burning oil 2001, thanks for info i will prolly order a couple of mains around 270 then, did you leave pilot jet the same? What does removing the baffling do for you?

You can cut out your old airbox and put in an aluminum box then you can run a cylindrical K&N. Mine from CFM is SICK. Im sure the one pitboss sells is just as good.

I had help with the jetting. I called (had to leave a message) my friend to see if he remebers what all was done. I can't remember but I think that he did may have changed the pilot one size up. He was already into the carb by the time I got over to his house. Removing the baffle helps to create a more free-flowing exhaust. While it is not as good as an aftermarket exhaust it is better than stock (and is quiet). I was not going to mess with it until I rode my friend's daughter's Blaster. All she had was the gutted silencer and re-jetted carb w/ oil blockoff and it was noticeably faster and better running than my Blaster w/ K&N. Honestly, I would pay close attention to the jetting and read the onsite how-to so as to make sure you are properly jetted for your engine/area. I tend to like mine a little on the rich side so as to err on the side or reliability.

I used a cut down portion of a 90 degree conduit PVC bend. Size matches right up with the 34mm pj and easily connects with a rubber coupler. The tubing makes it around the shock without touching and I did minimal trimming of the airbox to still provide some coverage for the clamp on filter.

Did away with that crappy squashed intake design around the shock.

I think I am going to try your setup mystahagy. I have the stock carb though, think I will be able to find a hose or pipe to work? Also, do you have any jetting recommendations for this upgrade?
