battery charger wiring

Am I right in thinking if I remove all the old lighting circuit wiring take the correct positive and negative from the lighting circuit that come from the stator onto the yellow wires of a single phase rectifier regulator, then wire the red and black to the battery, then take the new lighting,horn and indicators all from the battery then I don't need to remove and modify the stator?

Again sorry if this has been covered I can't seem to find it.
