I've not done it myself but the 02 axle should work if you use the sliding brake hub. They changed to hydraulic brakes in 03 with a non sliding brake hub.
The 02 axle should fit the 03+ carrier if you the older sliding brake hub. The 02 carrier doesn't have the right mounting for the 03+ brake caliper. You can also install an axle from a Banshee with no problems. It will make your rear track wider.
