Hi guys, Just picked up a cheap Blaster, and after running the frame/engine numbers I've come up with a 2000 frame with an 89 engine. I know nothing about 2 strokes or the pro's and con's of the different years of blasters. I got it for $400 and the frame, plastics, suspension is in really good shape. However the engine has had a top redo/bore job. the guy i got it from said it was running good and then kinda bogged down like it was flooding, and then fuel started leaking out of the carb. He said the mechanic bored it out to the maximum allowed without changing a bunch of other stuff. I'm not sure what I've gotten myself in to but i'm sure you guys will be able to help get it lined out and going good. I also have a 94 warrior, and a 03 Suzuki Z400. look forward to chatting with you guys and start tearing into thus blaster.. Take care

well the number one rule of thimb around here is---

Leak down test ! to confirm you dont have bad crank seals or gaskets. air leak wreck a 2 stroke in a minute.

if that passes, then look to compression check and from there your carb and reeds.

Sporty

welcome to BF
boring it to any size overbore changes nothing, except bypassing alot of good life of that cylinder, it adds next to zero power, and requires zero changes to anything, as it does very little

flooding and fuel leaking out the overflow is sure sings of needeing a good carb cleaning, maybe a float adjustment and/or a float needle rubber tip problem
a good $20 rebuild kit from ebay (moose) includes that
$50+ float valve and needle, if a good cleaning/adjustment doesnt stop it

here's the carb cleaning thread........

the float adjustment should be 20-21.5mm, measured like this.........

and is adjusted by slightly bending this center tab until correct level is acheived........

Thanks for the info guys. I think the biggest problem is the little clip that holds the needle valve?? is missing. so i think someone has fished around in there not knowing what they were doing..Pics of the blaster to come as soon as i figure out how to do it again. it's been a long time

I put pics In my album. I don't think i will cost much. A carb kit is about $15 on eBay. And I'm gonna go pick up another complete blaster that has been dismantled tomorrow for $100. Nothing like jumping in with both feet. huh? Looks like I'll be hanging around absorbing all the info i can for quite a while. I'm looking forward to the new challenges. Both with a complete build and learning about 2 strokes.

Hey guys. I got my new needle and seat today and went ahead and put it in. I couldn't wait any longer. I got it back together and tried starting it and nothing!! pulled the drain screw out and there was fuel, pulled and cleaned the plug, was getting spark, but still nothing. So I told my wife that maybe I should have let someone that knows 2 strokes get it going for me. but before I put it up a went in the house to pout X( I told her maybe we should try pull starting it. against her better judgement she pulled me down the road with our warrior and after about a half a block it fired up!!!!! I:I Now I'm not sure its running at full potential but it does seem to run good enough to scare the @#$% out of me!!! As I said before i'm fairly certain I've never ridden 2 strokes before. I'M HOOKED!!! Thanks for your help and suggestions. Now that it runs I can dig into the rest of the multitudes of info here on the forums!! Thanks again guys!!
