Another jetting Q??!?

YOu need to take the pilot jet back out and the air screw out and spray carb cleaner through the hole where the pilot jet goes and the air screw. Blow compressed air through it so if anything is in there it will come out.

Have you pulled off the fuel line at the carb and made sure that fuel is flowing? It still sounds like your pilot circuit isn't cleaned out yet.

Bigger JET!! Make your engine happy, give it FOOD(fuel and LUBRICATION)

Im stuck running a 420 on my blaster to get the most out of it, even though its still stock bore but very ported, with reeds and pipes and another filter. Try getting your hands on a 300, and a 330. compare them both at wide open throttle.. thats the only time the main jet is fully open and its size can be judged. Be in 3rd gear, low rpms, and roll on full throttle, does it breath hard and start accelerating less as you approach full throttle? if yes, its too small.. If you get more exhaust noise than breathing noise, then maybe its too big. also, run around with your thumb to the metal... literally, whatever the rpms, high or low, and then check the plug.. color: black - ok, maybe rich, browner lighter color - too lean for an air cooled two stroke..

He is having a problem idling! Not top end, I'm not sure why he changed the main. Plug color Black= rich, caramel color = perfect, white = lean.

I duno why I changed the main either, just felt like it. It's a stock pipe. Oh well, whatever!! I haven't had this quad running since I've owned it.

There is fuel coming out of the fuel line, but I'm thinking I'll double check the flow as well.

So I should pull the air screw out and the pilot jet at the same time and get everything between the two clean? Thanx!!! That's the type of guidance I'm looking for!!! I'll report back later.....thanx again!

OK, pulled the choke, the air screw and the pilot out and ran carb and choke cleaner through them real well. I put in a fresh stock pilot jet, which I could see more light through than the one I had just cleaned up! Buttoned it back together. The petcock is flowing plenty of fuel, check. One thing, I thought that I had a new gasket for the carb, but it is an old crappy one....thought a new one had come with my top end gasket kit but I guess not. I crank the screws down nice and tight though.

Anyways, start her up and she runs the best she has yet!! It was running with the choke off, but running just above idle, choppy, and I had the throttle open 3/4 or more. Ran for about a minute and no go. Wait a bit, and it will fire again!!!

HOWEVER, now it's pissing pre-mix out of the vent on the left side (choke side) of the carb!! Running or not. It was not doing this before??? Could this be a float level issue??

WTF?!?!?! I wanna get this thing ripping!!! But thanks for your continued assistance!!

Floats are stilling or not adjusted. If the float level is not correct that could cause the choppy problem. Float height is 20-21.5 mm's

Hold the carb upside down. So that the float is resting on the needle and seat. Measure on with either side at the gasket mating surface to the top of the float. It should be 20-21.5mm. If it's not in specs. then bend the tab up or down.

I am back in action!!!! Woo Hoo!!!! Thanx all for your help!!

Here's the story. So, I was so close...yet it wouldn't stay running well, and I could rev it up much. I could open the throttle and it wouldn't wind out. This is all without the chain even attached...just trying to get it running to do some breaking in of the new rings.

I messed with the float level, measured and had it just right, and still, then I put the thing back together and is started pissing gas out of ALL of the drain lines!! WTF?!!! I kept taking it apart, putting it back together, and having this result. Well, I noticed with the bowl off that sometimes with the float hanging down that the needle could get weiner-eyed and then not seat back into it's seat. So after almost giving up, I tapped the bowl with a small hammer.....and no more leaking!!!

Then, I had a funny feeling that maybe the pipe was clogged, and it was!! That's why it wouldn't stay running!! So I put the other stock pipe on there, and bam...it's back in action!!!

The jetting isn't 100% perfect yet, but it's close enough. I took it through a few heat cycles, check the plug and it's dark mocha!! Last night at 8pm I rode it around the yard in first gear with the motor just above idle. Today before work I took it through the trails a little bit and got up to 1/2 throttle. It was colder last night than it was this morning....and it affected the idle. I got a little tinkering to do, but I'm pretty much there!!

Thanx again everyone for the help trouble shooting!!!

Here she is idling last night

Hey, it's running pretty well, I took it out for the first real high speed beating, haha. My neighbor has a few hundred acres and a bunch of cranberry bogs, so I took it out ripping through the fire roads through his bogs and such.

Fresh top end, but stock pipe....it definitely doesn't rip like with the FMF pipe but still not bad I guess. The only thing is that when I'm running in a high gear and trying to go slow, like not much higher than idle, the motor doesn't run great, it sputters and kinda 'diesels' at times. Accelerating and holding it at a higher RPM, it's fine. It's just decelerating at medium to low rpm and trying to hold a mediumish rpm, it isn't happy.

Is that just a needle adjustment or something else?
