so i have been trying to find my air leak... i have narrowed it down to the clutch cover side. is the oil seal on the crank the only way air can escape to the clutch cover side of the engine??

it can leak between the cases to the clutch cover side. it is all connected inside the bottom end. but the seal is a good place to start checking.
i replaced the oil seal already on that side and it doesnt leak. ok so when i seal the clutch cover its part of the airtight seal. i think i got it.
no the clutch cover doesn't compete any seal. there is a vent tube at the top of the trans that lets out any moisture and excess oil in case of an overfill so there is no pressure in the trans. what i was trying to tell you was that if you are still leaking out the 7psi after 5 to 10 minutes and there is no leak outside or on either oilseals on the crank you are probably leaking between the case halves.
Why do you think it is coming from the clutch cover side? (not really doubting you but it's good to hear what you've done)
after replacing the oil seal on the clutch side i put the cover back on without the gasket because i have a broken kickstart spring and went ahead and started on the other side but as a test i was spraying soapy water and pumping air. air bubbles were coming from where the clutch cover gasket would be. so i need to split my tranny case? great...
so you are still leaking. how fast is it leaking down? and you are only using 7 psi right? i would be damn sure the leak is between the cases before i tore it down.
well at first it was going to 7psi and leaking out in about 10 seconds now it wont even go to 7 psi... its a major leak!
yep, i sprayed soapy water all over the oil seal and nothing. put cover on and spray around it and airbubbbbles everywhere. guess im not going to busco this weekend...
