I have been thinking about putting an aftermarket filter on my 2003 blaster, any sugesstions on a good replacement filter, I was thinking about a K+N but some one told me not to get it, so I am wondering what everyone else thinks

I had a K&N and switched it out for a UNI the K&N sucks too much dirt through even with the outerwears on it but I really like the UNI

i have a k&n with outerwears, and the outerwears lids on both my blasters, and it works just fine. i like it.
Uh oh.. this subject again... Honestly you will never get a straight answer about this.... The opinions vary to extremes... Personally I run K&N in everything I own..

how do you know thats not just carbon buildup? Looks like a decent wash to me.
that doesnt really look like carbon. the uni that came with my factory7 airbox is nice! also has an outerwares lid. maybe buddy that sold me the big bore ran a k&n in sand all the time with no outerwears or something because thats why i ended up needing a bigger piston, wearing around intake and exhaust portsl ike mad. i forget which was worse.
Everyone is so quick to blame the equipment... No one thinks to blame the guy who may not have maintained it properly or installed it without sealing it properly...
The reason K&N sells so many filters in so many applications is because their product works... Same for Uni, Same for No toil, and others... If you take care of your stuff... Clean it regularly I would bet that any of the top name filters would suit you just fine.. I doubt that K&N is such a huge name in the industry is because they sell a bad product.

I agree with timsyfz. When you get an aftermarket air filter wether it be K&N No-Toil or Uni you have to CLEAN them. People with the K&N filter need to buy the recharge kit and make sure they clean them how the directions say and then oil them properly.
A K&N would probably be better but I wouldn't get one if you use your Blaster in dusty conditions.

K&N filters DO allow more dirt to pass through. Not really a significant amount.
K&N filters DO flow more air than any other filter tested not very much more than foam.
The dirt results came from professionals running a coffee filter typr device behind all filters tested. The dirt passed by the K&N was just barely more than the others.
The flow tests used a pressure drop technique from each side of the filter and the pressure drop was least in the K&N. But not by a whole lot.
So, to sum it up, it appears that K&N is the best performance filter and WILL give you a performance edge over other filters, but the tradeoff is your engine will probly not last quite as long. But since we are talking about a 2 stroke atv here, a rebuild is not that hard to do, and in my opinion your motor will only live slightly longer with a foam filter. Maybe 5% IF you clean and oil it properly. And you must use an outerwears in sandy conditions unless you want a sand dune inside your engine; K&N's do not block sand near as good as dust.

the uni filter that came with my toomey was better then stock...but when i got the k&n i could tell that it was better then uni...i could HEAR a difference and if you here a difference then its making a difference...i say k&n is best but you have to maintain it all the time...after every ride almost
I ride my K&N in pretty much nothing but nasty red clay dust in the summer time and have no problems. Just remember to clean.
