Did the reed break? or did the screws come out? Either way I would try to look down the intake port and see if you got lucky and it/they are still laying there and havn't made it into the motor yet.

The reed broke the screw didnt come out and its not laying in the intake port

Sorry man, that really sucks! Sounds like you've got enough problems without making them worse. I'd try to get it out. You might be able to take the engine out & pull the cylinder off & flush it (or whats left of it) out. Just knowing it's in there and I didn't at least try to do something would drive me crazy. I've seen people just replace the reeds w/no problems - but with my luck I'd probably regret it.

I don't think a reed pedal would be able to do much damage if it had to go through the motor, or am I way off?? Never seen it happen though, but knowing what reeds are made of, or atleast the one's that I've seen I know there are different materials, but it's somewhat brittle plastic or carbon fiber material and the only thing that could suck would be melting plastic clogging up exhaust ports, but I think it would just pump the junk right out of the way, no??

Check out some boyesen replacement reeds, they're like 30 bucks and a dealership can order them for you. I know you said the screws didn't come loose but just reminding you to dry, clean up the threads and apply some loc tite.

since it is carbon, the fibers could separate and raise hell with the bearings (make the smooth surfaces not smooth), but it could have just passed through the motor with no issues or gotten stuck in one of the transfer ports in the jug.

either way, its gone onto the engine, question, is it out yet...

It would raise hell with the bearings but i'd do some detective work before taking the engine apart.. take the exhaust off and have a look n see if there are any pieces of it in there..

I dont know how big the Vitos reeds are, but from the intake ports, would it need to be broken up in order to go in?

If its out already, I'd keep riding until there was an issue, but if I didnt think it was out, I'd get a gasket kit, take the top end off, and go fishing!

i had one break cllean off and go in the motor put new ones in and never had a problem....didnt see it on the last rebuild either....it must of blew out
