a little jetting help

An unusual situation, normally the stock pilot jet is fine unless you have a heavily modded motor.

Couple of questions.

Is the pilot circuit scrupiously clean? Even minute dirt in there will cause problems.

Is the boot sealing to the carby?

Could the carby cap be leaking in air?

Is the oil injection nipple on the carby blocked off?

Is the brass washer under the main jet?

Could the throttle cable be tight, kinked or frayed?

When you did the leak down test did you flex the rubber boot, as I have known them to have small cracks which only show their ugly heads under vibration?

Some good info there would of never thought of this!!!

to adjust the ide on the tors u have to adjust the slotted and knurle screw on the tors cap. bring the bike to a staedy high idle around 1500rpm then adjust the pilot un til the bike is running the best. then adjust the screw on the tors to a decent idle speed. ur engine WONT idle right until the idle is adjusted at the tors or in the cable. the pilot circut is only relevent in the first 1/4 throttle or right off idle after that it does effect the whole throttle range wich is why it has to be jetted first. atleast thats what i understand. most carbs have a pilot that is adequate to the airflow possible at 1/4 throttle. ive heard new 450 carbs have a fixed pilot that isnt tuneable with out drilling them. i switched around several pilots on my build and ened up w a stock one in my 34mm tm.unless i missed something ( kinda baked) i would run a stock pilot, adjust tors idlescrew, check the intake over w carb cleaner for leaks .then go from there. Got caught with a IT400, started to rev, and when it did it vibrated, and revved some more, and kept increasing in speed and vibrating more, and so on it went.

yeah blaaster i went out and tried what you said and no difference in psi and when i put the the air screw to the proper setting it idles down and straight shuts off but when i hit the gas it bogs then i tap it again and get past the bog it revs and hangs for a minute then comes down sits then shuts of when i turn the air screw in it starts to even out hit the gas and perfict throttle responce and it comes down and idles for ever i truley sat there for a half hr and it idled perfict didnt shut down didnt rev high low nothing throttle responce was there and all i order the pilot jet it should be here monday we will see what that does hopefully that is my problem and i can get out there and ride hard

know i did ride the bike a bit around the back of my house the rest of the gears were awsome great power no hesitation from 1/4 all the way up to waaatt im not going to ride unless i know its not going to mess it up it is sopposed to snow out here tomorrow and i was trying to play a bit with my kids and there bikes

Read first post and all this page, seems you had idle problem? Sort of got it better? IF that's it, and only need bigger pilot you should be OK. It's running good 1/4 to full throttle? Doesn't feel flat WOT? Just slight bog off idle?

Plug chops at 3/4 and WOT, will tell you if it is safe to ride.

If you are concerned if the jetting is ok or not do some plug chops with new b8es plugs.

It will be interesting if a bigger pilot will fix your problem.

it dosent even bog of idle when i start off in first actually pritty crisp just at idle in nutral when i have the air screw at stock setting, but when i put the air screw to a half turn out from it being set all the way in it idles freaken great no hesatation when stabing the throttle comes back down and settles perfict and its crisp through all gears its just that the air screw is so far in makes me a little nerves being that stock is 1 1/2 turns out but i do want to get out there with my kids tomorrow but wont if it will mess up the bike

here is mey plug chop did it this morning

From what I see on my crappy little notebook screen, I would ride it.

To me it seems a little rich, but that too could be the screen.

The ring should be a biscuit colour.

Some one with a bigger screen , please read, and comment.
