Picked up a non-runner for $100

Current progress is as follows, a lot more to come.

Stripped down, engine pulled

Cleaning it up. Previous owner beat this thing into the ground and never did a lick of maintenance:

Ebay Piston Kit:

Split cases to clean out a shattered piston skirt and put new bearings in:

New Gaskets and Piston:

Scored a GSXR Brake Set-Up off Flee-Bay and started building brackets:

Painted Frame, Plastics, Wheels, Etc.:

Ebay gasket kit:

Engine back in, still needs lights wired, grab bar built, and all the misc. BS that goes into this stuff:

Don't know if i'm going to make heel guards or buy them. Have to finish the rear brakes too. Still breaking the engine in so haven't been able to see how it runs full out yet but that's coming. Came with a pro circuit platinum exhaust so that's a plus. I'll be playing with jetting, plugs, and air cleaner cover/no cover to get this thing dialed in. Just another thing to keep me busy.

My first mock up of the rear brake master cylinder was a fail because the kicker hit it, felt like a douche for that one. Still playing around with that perfect positioning.

Not so keen on the base gasket, they are known to cause trouble and leak, keep a good eye on it and leak test often.

Will do. I plan on testing it often. I usually don't buy bottom line gaskets and such but i wanted to see what budget parts are capable of. I will report on the longevity of the parts/gaskets used. Why not be a guinea pig right? lol. At this time a leak down tests out great so we'll see how long it holds. Going to re-torque head tonight after another heat cycle and then leak test.

Nice job on the build. I recommend going with some heel guards. There is some information on here using the gaurds off the Raptors that bolt on with a few light mods.

and someone did some with pvc that look great and are about $10-$15 I think.
Ill try and find a link.

Thanks guys. I'm currently looking for some heel guards. Never thought of raptor ones, I'll look into that. That pvc rear foot guard looks like a good little project I might do that.

Did you use orange rtv on the cases? That stuff will deteriorate when gas hits it and will deposit itself as little orange balls all over the inside of your engine.

Good spotting!

The same amount of squeeze out will possibly be on the inside as well.

As Wheels mentioned that rtv may break up and migrate into bearings causing unforseen damage.

The cases may not be airtight for long and may cause a lean mixture which may destroy the top end.

It's the Fuel/Oil/High Temp Gasket. Good thought tho, i can pull the cases and clean it one of these days, I've pulled so many I'm pretty fast at it. Probably not a bad idea, thanks.
