runs but slips all the time like it wont fully disenguage. its sat for a while but just replaced the cable and adjusted still the same problem. could it be that the springs are just too old and need replaced?

take it apart and give the plate's a little sand paper but not to hard just so thay are not too smooth and put it back to gether
