Hello everyone!
So i have worked on several blasters up to this point but i for the first time bought myself one yesterday.
91 blaster with beautiful plastics and seat, the top end was ripped off because the piston blew up and the muffler is missing.

I was told they rode this quad without a silencer for a good while, what bad could that have done?

My plan at this point is to slap a new piston in there ASAP and get a feel for what all is wrong with the bike.

I would appreciate anyones input on mods that will give me more power or better handling.

I a proficient at working on motors and quads in general.

Ok. You cant just slap a piston in and expect it to be good. You need to check for scarring on the piston walls and see what size it needs. If theres scarring, you need a bore and hone. As far as mods go, theres exhaust, air filter, reeds, porting, head mod, bigger carb, and more for more money. Do a search on the forum. Plenty of people ask the same question

Cheap handling mods, banshee front shocks are a direct bolt on, banshee axle is a direct swap, 400ex rear shock if you get ken oconnors bushing, and of course extended a arms and shocks like elkas

I know i need to check the cylinder and such, but banshee suspension sounds good, i would also like front disk brakes, that is also a straight swap from a banshee correct?

I was told yfz 450 shocks will fit a banshee so does that hold true with a blaster?
Will any other a arms fit the blaster, like banshee, yfz, etc..?
Can i use banshee spindles with hubs so that i can use front disk brakes?
Does a different swing arm fit the blaster, like once again will a banshee a arm fit?

Thanks, so does anyone have any experience with these a arm exterders.
They look like 1/4" metal plates that widen the front a total of 6 inches

Here is my lads bike with a Diamond widening and lowering kit fitted, using Works YFZ450 dual rate shocks.

The way to go if you are on a budget, but not as good as aftermarket A arms.

Ia the motor still together, if so do a leak test to try to find our if an air leak caused the piston to burn, it is often the case with S/H motors.

A shattered piston shouts lots of wear in the cylinder, the piston has slapped around, cracked and flown to pieces.

You will need to have the cylinder bored and a new piston fitted.

Another problem faces you, because the piston has exploded there will be lots of it floating around in the crancase.

The cases will have to be split, bearings removed and thouoroughly cleaned, prefferably replaced.

Hopefully the piston pieces have not punched a hole through the case as they were pulverised around by the revolving crank.

Most motors that drop a piston do have crankcase damage, you will find out when you split the cases.

While you are in there replace the crank seals.

Good luck!

Finally got this project underway. Cylinder is going to the shop today to get bored and matched up with a piston, i ordered a stock silencer and all the cables i needed. Now i need some good tires for the snow, any suggestions?
