i just bought a newly rebuilt 1986 250R rear shock. now... i think i know how to mount it. here are my questions.

1. will my new shock be too short if i extend my swingarm?
2. what size swingarm should i get? +2, +3, or +4?
3. have i screwed myself?.... wait.. don"t answer that one.

^^ yep, hes right it doesn't move the support and the length of your swingarm depends on your mods IMO... idk..probably a +2 would be fine as long as you dont have like a sh*t load of mods on if thats what ur doin

cool, thanks for the replies.

i quickly learned that the shock mount will stay the same, forgive my newness, ha.

well, i KNOW i need some more length on my swingarm... or do i? should i just try the new shock and see how it feels first? .. i want some experienced thoughts, as i have none.

the bike feels like it should be longer to me because it wheelies too quickly ( but they are fun). but the main reason i want to extend is because when i jump i want a straighter, safer, more predictable landing.... will a longer swingarm do this?

thanks for the help.

Im wondering about swing arm info too. been thinking of making/buying one myself.

What are the Pro's vs. cons to extending the swing arm. I have the stock shock in the rear, and stock tires. But i'd like to change to shorter tires soon.

Thanks. (sorry for the partial threadjack, but at least it relates):-D

well, the only real dissadvantages are --- 1.) DO NOT TRY TO RIDE A WHEELY ON THE GRAB BAR, IT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE, YOU FLIP OVER :p

2.) longer wheelbase, which makes wheelies a bit harder, but still easy...just harder than it was b4..

i really dont think its worth the money i had the choice of getting one but i didden't get one

hey, no prob... :)

i am actually having one built.. but, i dunno if i should go +1, +2, or +3

advantages... little better stability, easier to keep the blaster on the ground for very fast takeoffs, and good for people with alot of mods, to keep their blasters on the ground when riding uhm...idk what length you should go to... what kinda mods you have?? (im only runnin +1 i dont like the super long look for mine unless i have to) anyway..list some mods and i may b able to tell you what to go

well.... not many.

.40 over
boysen power reeds
FMF sst pipe
banshee front shocks

i am in the next week about to .....
+4 rear axle ( or maybe spacers)
250r rear shock....

eventually +4 a-arms ( maybe +2, i dunno)

performance wise, that's it.

thanks for the replies.

If you have questions about performance . . . save a buck on me. A guy on ebay sells swingarm extensions.

First off, they are bullet proof. Mark, the owner of my local shop, runs a set on his Banshee. He has a +8 swingarm for sand, but on asphalt he adds the extensions. He has 30k in his Banshee and he trusts them.

The only reason I bring up the testimonial is they are dirt-cheap. $75 bonez to try out an extended swingarm. The extra lenght will assist in straight line riding. But only +2 on a Blaster will not really affect your lateral movement too much. Plus if you don't like them you can put them back on Ebay and only be out 20-40 bucks.
