hey blaster owners out there!

i am looking to rebuild the top end of my 2001 blaster. i took the jug off and the piston as well. i am going to get the cylinder honed (and possibly bored out) and im looking for advice on what size to go with and where to get good, maybe cheaper parts.

i also want to replace the stock carburetor and am looking for any tips or suggestions for a new one.

the bike wasn't really taken care of since my cousin has had it the past few years and if anyone has tips or ideas of stuff i should look into feel free to let me know.

anyone know how to adjust a clutch???

thanks for your time in reading and responding to my post. i would like to find a good place to talk and learn about the bike, hopefully this is it!

wow dude this is a lot of work. (on my part that is) first off take your cylinder to a machine shop(or mail it to kenoconnorracing.com) and have it measured with a mic not a caliper. if you don't have a mechanics manual for the blaster get one. they have them on ebay. when they measure the cylinder they will tell you what size piston to buy. ebay is usually the best place to get one. Weisco is the only piston i will buy. worth every penny of the extra 20 bucks. your stock carb should be fine, unless you have lots of upgrades a larger carb won't do much. just rebuild it and up the jet size a couple. to like a 250-260.(stock is 230)rockymountainatv.com is a good place to get jets.

you have to open the clutch cover(the right side engine cover) to adjust the clutch. like i said buy a manual and study it. put forth some effort on your part and everyone on here will be more than willing to help. but you need to edjucate yourself alittle so you understand what we are talking about. this is great place to learn. read as many posts that are realavent to your problems as you can.

oh by the way remove your airbox lid if it is still on. that is a good power increase but you will need to rejet. this is the best blaster site in the world. we don't put up with douche bags and almost everyone is really positive and very willing to help. welcome dude!

Rocky mountain atv has decent prices on piston kits. But my local shop sells them cheaper, so if you have a shop around you I would start there. Wiesco piston is what you want. as for the carb you really dont need a bigger one so I wouldnt replace it unless you have too or if you need more fuel.

here it is you have to pan down a bit to slickerthanyou's post.

there is an online manual in the engine section also i think. you will probably need that. i like havin the book though.

when you take your cylinder it might have to be bored to the next size up if there is excessive wear. a hone job will not work in that situation. also make sure he champfers the ports. this is where they round the edges of the ports inside the cylinder off so that the piston rings don't catch. any questions just ask dude. again welcome to the site.

Nice info, Scot, they only thing I wanted to add is that personally I think the Keihin PWK 28mm carb is a great upgrade to a stock bike. The design is superior to the Mikuni VM 26mm that comes stock on the blaster. The seat-of-the-pants upgrade to the throttle response is enough reason all by itself, plus the added airflow potential to go with removal of the airbox lid is sure to wake up any sleepy stocker's topend.

Of course, then you are gonna want a pipe, and a .....

yep royal-T. that is why i didn't suggest a carb. that leads you deep into the rabbit hole if you keep on. but if he does just get a carb wouldn't a 30mm be better for future upgrades. he would have to go really far to outgrow that one.
