new castle pa
well it was quite a few weeks ago i found this out but it astonished me.

NOTE:

the example is with Arctic Cat 2011 snowmobile specs

ok based on the info on their web-site

the 2011 800cc 2-stroke twin sno-pro LXR
-put out 160+ hp
-displacement 795cc

the 2011 1100cc twin 4 stroke procross LXR
-puts out 144+ hp
-displacement 1056

261cc more then the 2 stroke and it is putting out 16 less HP

the 2011 1100cc twin 4 stroke turbo procross LXR
-puts out 177+hp
-displacement 1056

they have to put a turbo on the 4 stroke to get 17 more hp then the 800 2 stroke

if 4 strokes are SO much better then 2 why do they need to turbo charge a 1100cc sled just to gain a small edge on the 800cc 2-stroke sled that can easily be made up with a decent performance pipe

Actually pound for pound in the end, a modern 4 stroke gas engine is more efficient than a 2 stroke. If it wasnt, the 2 stroke would make the same HP with HALF the displacement of the 4 stroke. Those days are over.

I still love my Blaster, and on a quad, I really like the snappy powerband and sound and smell of a 2 stroke, I dont like thumpers all that much, but when you start talking fuel injected turbocharged 4 strokes, I have a soft spot for boost.

Now if you want to see what FI does to a 2 stroke, look at the power output for some of those 2 stroke supercharged/turbocharged diesel engines. Those things are NUTS.

the 2 stroke produces way more torque and power, but only runs so far before a new top end, my buddy had a yamaha phazer 500 4 stroke and they tell you straight from the factory that its guarrenteed 20,000 miles before a rebuild, and its way more efficent..

BUT, fck 4 strokes, my sleds and wheelers are 2 strokes

another thing 2 strokes have on the pokers are the lighter more compact motor and the level of experience for working on them is way lower than what it would be on a 4stroke

and where do we in pennsylvania have that far of wide open runs ????

noobers lil 200cc raping this kfx450

2 stroke durability I think is directly related to proper tuning and maintenance , these days in our throw away society kids and most adults just want to jump on and go , they don't wanna have to put any effort into anything and it shows . I bet our machines because we have them jetted and keep them in great shape they will outlast your typical 2 stroker joker .

my first blaster...brand new 96, served me very well for 8+ very, very hard years,
sold it with the stock piston, clutch and oil injection still workin like a champ
1-2 kicks everytime
and i only pushed it home once, 2nd day i fouled a plug babyin it for breakin

^^^ I agree with Awk08, if you take care of them they will last, my '95 has never been rebuilt and still has the injection system and runs great. Once it loses all of its compression I'll rebuild it but till then I'm happeh:D slightly off topic but anyway 2-strokes rule!I:I

I love the noise of a 4 stroke and the simple work of a 2 stroke. A 3 Stroke! lol but in all honesty i like 4 pokes better cause thats what i have been around longer..
