Why don'nt manufactures bring back a 2 stroke atv? for example, how come Yamaha don't drop a yz 250 motor into a yfz chassis or a yz 85 motor in a raptor 250/350 chassis? cuz yamaha still make 2 stroke dirt bikes... as well as ktm. How come KTM dont put a sx 250 motor into the atv chassis? I think there is a huge market for 2 stroke atvs in todays day, judging by all the guys rebuilding and restoring 250r's, blasters, ltr's, banshees etc...

it's all about the almighty $$$$
they can charge you more for a 4 stroke engine equipped machine, and then again for the parts/services to maintain it.

im about positive that they are not allowed to be marketed anymore sadly :/ dirtbikes can because they are made off the showroom floor for closed course racing purposes only, so they dont have epa standards like atvs

Interesting topic.. but its all politics. I agree on the two stroke quads. That's why we need to keep alive what we have.. and don't part out unless necessary... IMO two strokes are the best. They do much more with less..but its all about $$$$,, just like a hybrid car now gets what 45mpg?? But an old vw bug got that back in the 60 s had the same or more mpg and After all these years that's the best they can do with all this technology..that's all b.s...imo,,, there's to much$$ involved in fuel to make a car get better gas mileage, the gvmnt loses$$ its all politics and its a shame... X( so i believe it's our duty to keep the two strokes alive as long as possible.. great subject thoughI:I..a two stroke does so much more with so much less..I:I

speaking if VW's and fuel milage.........

the new VW deisel/hybrid concept.......
89mpg. 300+hp. 500+ ft.lbs. torque

2 stroke snow mobiles are making epa standards... Maybe someday they'll incorporate that tech into an atv.

Sleds are 1 of the most brutal when it comes to power.

I'm with Joe...we'll see the tech migrate into ATV's again sometime soon.

I just got back from Stihl school last week, and during class they were discussing the new techniques Stihl has been using in their engines to make them run cleanly enough to meet the EPA's new Tier III emission standards. Without going into complicated detail, suffice it to say class that day was very cool. If Stihl can do it to a chainsaw, weedeater, etc (which is subject to the same...if not more stringent...standards as an ATV), it can be done to bigger 2-stroke engines. Stihl already has an EFI concrete saw, clean-burning commercial logging saws, and lots more enviro-friendly tech on the market. Just wait.... we'll see more of this...

fuel injection and liquid cooling on a newer 2-stroke atv would almost have to be mandatory for anyone to wanna shell out cash for a new quad. just saying it would be nice
