Hey Guys im a newbie to blasters and i have tried searching this all kinda ways but i am finally breaking down and posting. I have a 1993 Blaster that i am monkeying with. It has a K&N filter, stock pipe and a fmf silencer and has been sitting for several years. It started up when we first picked it up. We brought it home started it the next day let it idle for quite a bit then tried to ride it down the street and it went a few feet then died. So far i have gone through the carb and cleaned it out. I then changed out the plug it had a
B7ES in it and i picked up a B8ES. It has spark, it seems a little weak to me but i grounded it out on the exhaust pipe and there is spark. The engine is also getting fuel. After attempting to start it when i pull the plug out it is wet and if i cover the plug hole up and kick the bike over fuel comes spraying out of the plug hole usually right at my eyes. I put a volt meter on the coil and the mannual says 1.4 to like 1.7 and this ones at 1.9 so its a little out of spec. Everything else in the ignition system is testing good. I tried to dissconect the tors and got it all unhooked except i didnt jump the blue wire yet. This bike has been messed with quite a bit, the key has been taken off, a twist throttle has been put on, theres a black wire up front by the handle bars thats disconnected and when i connect it the spark goes away. I pulled the silencer and took it apart to make sure it wasnt clogged. Any suggestions on where i should go from here? I am going to do a compression test but it seems like the compression is good, it shoots fuel out of the plug hole quite well. One other thing i noticed is sometimes when i am kicking the bike over it seems to get locked up. I kick the bike softly and can get it un stuck fairly easily. Any and all suggestion are extreamly apppreciated! Thx in advance!

not sure what the problem is but if it was mine i would make sure that the spark plug is properly gapped at .30 oh yeah and make sure you at least have a 240 jet in since it has a aftermarket filer, if the kicker gets stuck its probally a problem with the spring or something

I also used some starting fluid and that didnt even get it to fire. i also took another plug out of a running blaster and nothing...

have you checked the reeds ?
a broken reed petal may ocassionally start and barely idle, but will die as soon as it's given throttle.

and that "locking up" sounds like the bottom end may be flooded with fuel, it will not start like that either.
besides tearing it down, the only other way i've seen the cases cleared of fuel is to tow it behind something, in gear, maybe 4th/5th gear, with the fuel off and throttle wide open, you need to get the rpm's up enuf the blow that fuel out the pipe, do not tow it to the next town and back with no fuel/oil for lubrication, a few laps around the yard should be enuf, if that is whats wrong ?

all the cables are good and no not even a sputter or pop...oh and i checked the reeds and they look good i think they might even be boysens cause they have that cabon fiber look... i did find that the over flow line off of the bottom of the carb was plugged but i cleared it and still nothing.

What about just draining the oil? It does need an oil change. One thing i noticed is after trying to start it i pull the plug and it seems like an awful lot of fuel spits out...

good fresh fuel ?
try another plug, they can foul instantly

btw...there is no blue wire in the tors system that needs connected, 88-02 just gets all disconnected, 03+ requires 2 wires out of the CDI to be connected, neither of those are blue
only the voltage regulator wire is blue, and it has nothing to do with the ignition, only lighting.

be sure to tape off any black/white stripe wires hanging loose, they kill the ignitition if connected to any black wire at the switches, or the frame.

and clean your black ground wire at the coil, remove, sand area to bare metal, clean terminal and reconnect

clcik the troubleshooting guide link below my sig pic \/\/\/

I will give it a shot, as far as the tors i unplugged it up front at the box and then at the assembly on top of the carb.

Once the bottom end is flooded it stays that way????

Do as Awk said take it for a drag around the yard on the end of a bit of rope.I:I

Did 93's come with oil injection or were they all pre-mix?

all blasters came stock with oil injection

Once the bottom end is flooded it stays that way????

yes, until you get it out of there

What about just draining the oil? It does need an oil change. ..

the oil is only in the transmission, which is seperate from the crankcase
only the oil in the fuel, either injected or mixed, lubricates the crankshaft and piston

I had my multi meter set on 20k instead of 2k while testing the secondary coil resistance so it looks like the coils shot....silly meeeeee, i will let you guys know how it works out..

Okay im retarded and need to learn to use my multi meter. The coil was still good, well its just a tad bit out of spec but good. The plug cap tested wide open no conection at all so i was able to find a new one and still it didnt start. It had much better spark but wouldnt fire so we hooked it up to the truck and dragged it down the street in 5th gear and after a block or so she came back to life and ran great. Started first kick after that. I did a compression test also and it has over 120 psi so alls well that ends well. Thanks for the help guys!

Sometimes when a 2s gets flooded it takes a lot to clear the excess out of the crank area. Glad you got it going. So what do you think the problem was? Plug cap?
