I have a YTM225 3 wheeler. It was running and one day it died. So we tore it down and found the prob. The Key way for the fly wheel went. Replaced that and made sure it was back it time and now it will start and run for a second but as soon as I give it gas it dies. I did tare the carb down and clean it really well but still having the same issue. Any Ideas on what can be the problem or what I should check next?

I bought a 225DX a few years ago, it was running but needed a tune up. Brought it home did the whole tune up deal, got it back together and it would start and die. Long story short, I had put the float back in up side down. That carb has a rounded bottom float bowl and a round on one side float. I put it together the way it looked like it should go but turns out the round side of the float goes up. Just a suggestion, hope it helps.

Why do you think the flywheel spun and sheared to key?

Did it backfire and then stop?

Did you hit something to make the motor come to an abrupt stop?

Describe please how it stopped.

My son was actually riding it but I was right there. Ya it kinda sounded like it backfired a little then bogged out like it ran out of gas. When we would try to start it after that it would only back fire thats what lead my dad to believe it was a timing issue. Thats when we took it apart and found the key.

We fixed the key and know it starts but like I say it starts then acts like it runs out of gas. Thats why I went to the carb but its clean. Im pulling my hair out.

Not sure if the float level is right or not. Did clean the carb again yesterday and had it running good. ran it for a while today and she acts like she is dirty agin. I looked all over in the manual it does not tell me where the float needs to be set at it just tells me to keep doing it till its right. Is there a good way to do it or a magic Number?

Those carbs are very similar to the one on a Blaster (they're both similar-sized, round-slide Mikunis), so Id be confident in setting the float at 22mm and seeing how it runs. Also, try taking the fuel petcock out of the tank and cleaning the intalke filter screens. A clog here, or the use of an extra inline fuel filter between the tank and carb (not needed on this bike) can starve the engine of fuel.
