I just picked up a 98 blaster for 350. Has a newer top end but compression Is low I have not did a compression check but the kick starter goes down pretty easy by hand.. so I pulled the head off and everything looks to be in good shape . The guy says he didn't use a torque wrench on the head or cylinder . I plan on pulling the cylinder off later. And checking the rings. What would cause low compression besides bad rings or leaky head gasket?

check the piston to cylinder clearence.
his "newer top end" may have just been slap a new piston in a worn bore :(
use the feeler gauge method for a quick idea if it's even close
