Hey guys, I'm new here. I recently bought a blown up blaster, and I rebuilt it and put in a garbage ebay namura piston. Well, surprise surprise it blew up. Now, this WAS my fault.. junk in the gas tank blew a hole in my reeds and.. well to put it lightly, destroyed my piston. Plus I didn't care enough to break it in so my rings are toast.. but let me get to the point.

I'm definitely going with boyesen power reeds and a wiseco piston-
BUT:
I'm torn between which piston to get? I'm running a stock bore, but theres a 573PS piston and a 573M. Can anyone tell me the difference? Like, is one cast? Is one better? This is the first GOOD aftermarket part I will be buying. Ever since my first engine (like 20 engines ago) I've always replaced everything with OEM.

There is nothing wrong with Namura pistons. STOP BLAMING THE PARTS!

Lets start here first >>> What EXACTLY BROKE?

Be specific. Telling the forum that it "blew up" tells us nothing. We can all help with some specific info!

"Plus I didn't care enough to break it in so my rings are toast" Oh really???

Let me get this strait... You didn't care enough to break in the engine properly, but your looking at getting ANOTHER piston? Let alone a wiseco? Wow.
I bet you didn't check that engine for any kind of leaks, clean the carb, clean the air filter, change the tranny oil, etc, etc.

Now lets get serious. I'm going to say this again.... The piston, regardless of what kind NEEDS TO BE PROPERLY FITTED to a ROUND, STRAIT bore with NO TAPER! The fact that you say your on the "original bore" means nothing. That piston got destroyed because of ignorance. It can however be fixed. I believe in OEM parts, but this can sometimes limit you to over sizes available when it comes to pistons. How did you come to the conclusion that "junk in the tank blew a hole in my reeds"? Makes ZERO sense. Help us out with the details...Seriously
Never time to do it correctly the first time, but lots of time to do it again, and again, and again...and blame the parts, oil you use, Yamaha in general, etc.

Take care of your bike! Routine maintenance goes a LONG WAY!

well lets see. if something is in the gas tank, wouldnt it go through the reeds and into the cylinder? even if not, theres a hole in my reeds. so the piece of the reed was slapping around in my cylinder. and my needle bearing blew up. I don't care that i blew it up. no need to get snobby. its the original bore, idk how many bores youve seen come stock on blasters but ive only seen one. its a 66mm piston. but who cares about why i blew it up. my only question was WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 573M AND 573PS PISTONS. I tried giving a friendly hello but come on now, I'm not retarded.

and every two heat cycles i went over every bolt and tightened them... i even torqued everything to specs. there were all new gaskets and no air leaks. new spark plugs, correctly gapped and everything. I didnt break it in well enough because i was excited to ride it. i know what i did wrong, theres no need to tell me what i already know. and stock bore i mean its a brand new jug. OEM specs.

in my book yes they wrote PS cuz
there name is powersports:eek:

the real part number is at bottom and the same...

BUT it would pay to read up on here about the wiseco pistons and stuff cuz
the clearance on them is different then the cast ones and you might be throwing your money away if you do not check out your cylinder

im not positive cuz i never bought a wiseco piston, for a blaster before:)

From what I've heard, The clearance on the skirts are slightly greater (as in the piston itself is a smaller circumference) because of heat expansion. I'm not too educated as to why I would need to change anything for that, since its still 66mm at the crown or whatever, but i would imagine that warming the motor up before doing anything would be pretty vital. I'm not sure if all pistons are like this, but it would make sense.

welcome to BF.

If you throw another piston in that stock 66mm bore, it's going to blow again, and again, ect.
it needs bored/honed to the next size or whatever it takes to restore the bore to round/straight.
and fit that exact piston.
this cylinder needs taken to or sent to a professional shop, bored to see what cleans up the bored, then honed to the exact piston he provides or tells you to provide.

Really? .....Not being snobby, just serious. This can be fixed. However, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT MADE IT FAIL.

there were all new gaskets and no air leaks.

How do you know there were no air leaks? Did you do a leak down test? What pressure did you use to test, and how long did it hold it?

If we all know this it help us diagnose the problem.
