The dumbest question is the one not asked, young grasshopper.
Now, I have to admit to having used a rubber mallet on a case half that wouldn't slide down over dowel pins (usually because prior case damage made the dowel alignment pins a REALLY tight fit) but only after I had made ABSOLUTELY sure that nothing else was holding it up.
For someone who hasn't done it enough to be super comfortable with it, I'm with slick. DON'T USE A HAMMER!
Gotcha, maybe a few more rebuilds will get me more comfortable. ALl in the learning experience!
The good news is, blasters are cheap and easy (about the easiest ATV engine out there!) to rebuild, repair, and replace.
Unfortunately, there are a few golden rules and tricks of the trade that you should not break and should adhere to. Some of them aren't covered in the manual and you can really only learn and appreciate from experience!

get one of the long screws and start on the front, and back and start inserting mor as you go along then do it
