Whats A Good Price For a 91 ?

Hi guys and girls...

I'm sure this has been covered like crazy but can't seem to find alot of information. I recently moved back to Socal & miss the desert tremendously. I bought a CRF150F to tool around on but wanted to get another quad again as well.

I'm 40 (almost), 5'4" & about 150lbs and have owned blasters & a Honda 450r in the past...

I found a 91 blaster locally. It's basically done, not too hype, but good. New stock bore piston last season & barely ridden this season, uni filter, holeshots in rear, +2 swingarm, FMF Gold pipe & Powercore silencer, frame is good, plastics good enough, oil block kit, new chain & sprocket, carbon fiber reeds, paddles with douglas red labels ( which I would sell, would never use them ), and that's about it. just a good beater. Was the gentlemans wifes bike...

Is $700 about right ? Again, living in Socal, storage is limited & have a scooter & dirtbike in garage already.

Looking for something to play on till maybe next year & get another 450R (although I did find a bone stock barely used 2007 450R on clist for $2900, which is tempting as well).

I dont really care to be the fastest guy anymore. I ride @ Superstition & Plaster City so it's hardpack for the most part. Just looking something to hammer & have both the dirtbike & quad for whatever I feel like doing. Plus i'm pulling with a 2003 Honda Element & dont want to kill that with excess towing weight either.

Look forward to some insight, i'd appreciate it...

Thanx
David

I'd say that's an excellent price... get some more input but it seems like you couldn't go wrong with that.

I thought so too. He's stuck on $800 right now but RV/ATV sales here in Socal are diminished due to economy. Kinda why i'm not jumping all over the 450R right now, as it's stock & I know me, would instantly want to put money in it.

The blaster I would just widen out a bit & do the shock conversions, and kinda be done...

I appreciate you getting back to me so fast... The guy who is selling is straight up & has been cool with me. He also has a banshee for $1500 which is super nice, but think he's keeping that one...

Both the Blaster (even at 800) or the Banshee (at 1500) sound like good deals if they are as clean as you say they are. Not much difference in any year Blaster unless you want hydro brakes that come on the 03+. If its clean I would say go for it.

Thank you for your input. Tha banshee is what I saw initially from this seller and then stumbled across his blaster. Once back in the house will post a pic or two of her.

My (crf150f) knows I'm looking at quads. Outside running her as I haven't in two weeks and she is being a biotch to start.

I like it! I'd say get it...good deals on Blasters like that are few and far between. Jump on it! The engine sounds nice and tight..I hear no piston slap or knocking, which is good. Most Blasters at that price have some engine problems. This one doesn't seem to.

That being said, from watching the vid, the engine needs to have the carb jetted properly. It is idling too fast and sounds lean. (Unless, of course, the guy has the choke out for the engine to warm up). I think I see a UNI clamp-on filter on that carb. You'll need around a 300 main jet for it to run like it should.

Just sayin'...easy fix, but it needs to be done soon. And I HATE that pink seat cover...Put on a white and blue one and it'll look 10X better. :D

Ahhhh whats wrong with the pink lol... Truth, at that price, I dont even care about the pink. He has pink shock covers too & i'd rock them proudly. All I would really get are nerfs, banshee shocks up front & 400ex shock in the back, & wheel spacers like my old blaster & be done with it. It's funny, I sent to a friend of mine today & told him i'd probably use it this season & next and probably sell it. He was like i'll give you $500 for it for his kids lol... Too easy...

Low & behold, upon looking around, I didn't know Duncan Racing was basically down the street from my house. I used to have all my work done @ Langston in Temecula (on my 450R) and was looking for 2 stroke joints around the pad just incase, & bam, there it was, 15 miles away, and one of the best...

We shall see, i'm still looking at the 2007 450R, but honestly don't want to spend that scratch ($2900, a steal, bone stock). I owed the IRS over $4000 this year & just got out of the hospital, & haven't got that bill yet. Plus can always find relatively comparable deals to that as well, maybe not that cheap, but close to it. Instead of bone stock, would prefer the suspension being done with no engine mods... That's what I want for my next 4 stroke quad. Will never buy new again, always lose money in the end...

Thanx for the help guys. Keep it coming please.

Oh yeah, at almost 40, will I be the oldest guy here on a Blaster if I get it lol ?

Thanx
David

your never too old for Blasters! I got mt first Blaster at 11 and I love them I'm almost 32 now! I don't care what anyone thinks! BTW I'm 6'1 235lbs! For what the are they are great bikes! I say rock it that's a great price and around here that bike wouldn't last a day for sale at that price! I also agree with Braaaptor195 it needs jetted properly! Sounds lean to me!

Thanx for the input & the vote of confidence on my old ass lol...

I had emailed him back last night to see if he had started to consider my $700 offer as he hasn't had alot of bites here in Socal. He's posted a few times. Just made $50 on a craigslist sale of some junk in the garage, so not could go to $750 on him lol...

I liked my blaster as well, and just dont want to have to work on it all the time, and would try & keep as perfect running all the time, so I appreciate the ideas of the rejet. I don't know how you guys can hear that stuff, as i'm not good with carbs at all, but would be a good learning experience and not too expensive a quad to practice on.

Spent alot of time on the site last night messing around and so many of you guys had made bad ass rides on the cheap, & for me, that would be fun. Probably not as extravagant as other, but somewhat... Wider stance, nerfs, shock conversions, and paint the frame some off the wall color...

So many ideas, but we'll see what he says. Found a bunch of 450R's last night in the gentlemans range that he was selling his 07, so I know there there & know they will be there in the future... So if he accepts my offer, I will take it.

How can you tell that it's running lean ? I live down the street from Duncan Racing & really wouldn't have a problem taking if over & having them once over it. Also live even closer to cycle parts west where I hear they do good work as well...

Thanx
David

Here is another one i've been looking at, but looks way abused. The guy selling is cool & owns Herr Juggs Racing... 1996 with Trinity 265 kit, +6 swing arm as well.. But I know reliability would not be there...

1996 Blaster 265cc

Watch the videos of this thing on you tube... crazy fast...

Thanx
David

I'd steer clear of that one it may be crazy fast but Its been run HARD! It also does not sound too good idling in that one video? Maybe some piston slap?

I still say that first Blaster looks like a great deal. By the way, if that white tank cover is actually white plastic not painted, I have a blue one to match those fenders if you were interested in a trade.

I like the first one as well but the gentleman hasn't got back to me. Maybe it sold & I waited too long :( We'll see...

I love the 450R but my wallet doesn't. Have the money but not sure I want to drop it on this quad. Seems like these deals for 450R's are everywhere here in Socal.

The other blaster is too abused for the price.

If I get the 1st blaster, I was actually going to do what you did & all white plastic it, but that may be more work than just trading for the blue tank cover lol. We shall see.

The only thing i'm weary of is rebuilding all the time. Just don't want to sink myself into someone elses problems. I've never done an engine & not sure how hard / time consuming it would be. It looks interesting and fun, but never had done it... It's like me & carbs, not good at those either, but again, never taken one apart as I dont want to screw it up. Just need to man up one of these days right...

Honestly there's nothing to either you just gotta jump in there take your time and learn! Pay attention to the details and don't be scared! Get a service manual, then if you get in a pinch and can't remember you can always look it up just to be sure! I know some people don't think like that and I'm a mechanic so it's easy to say! Anyone who wants to learn and tries can do it! READ READ READ!
