According to yamaha microfiche there is no difference in an 88-02 brake lever.

88-89 and 03-06 have the parking brake on the clutch lever. What you have there is a 90-02 front brake lever with the parking brake on it.

The 88-89 front brake lever is highly desirable and no longer available from Yamaha. It looks just like a generic clutch lever, except longer to clear the thumb throttle.

The part number for the 88-89 brake lever is 1NV-83922-00-00. The 90-02 is 3GH-83922-00-00
