i just bought a 1997 blaster.. my buddy got a carb kit for it.. we took the carb off cleaned it put it back.. put new gas in it.. now it will start and foul out spark plugs.. it wont stay running any info would be big time help..

thanks

Are you sure its fouling plugs? Is there anything aftermarket on it? It may be jetted really high for some wierd reason or the reeds may be broke check the size of the main jet and make sure the reeds arent broken.

it has a dg exhaust.. it was a factory carb kit.. we pulled the reeds when we had the carb out and they were fine... it would kick over run for a min then the spark plug was fouled.. we didnt get a jet kit for it.. i am new to the two stroke.. when i bought it.. it ran fine.. the other thing to is that whoever had before had the stator wires cut.. we put them back together.. just confused.

Silly questions!

Is there an oil tank under the seat?

Are you pre mixing your fuel, if so to what ratio and what oil are you using.

There was a recent case of someone here using brushcutter/chainsaw oil. Thats a NO NO!

no its premix gas and not chainsaw oil... my buddy did the fuel mix.. im new to this so what ratio and oil should i use.. ill try anything to get it going

ok.. ive tried it all.. it gets running with the choke pulled out the whole time. as soon as you let go it stops and fouls a plugg.. should i turn the air/fuel screw all the way in and start from there... also annoying that the choke wont stay out on its own.. i gotta hold it out.. im might sound retard but im learning as a go so thanks for the help

What color is this 'fouled' spark plug? If it runs better with the choke out that in, it sounds like the engine may be running lean rather than overly rich.

Here's what I'd do:

Take the carburetor off again. Turn it upside down and take the float bowl off. Check your float and inlet needle VERY carefully. I suspect your float level is too low, causing the engine to starve for fuel and/or the floats to stick. Proper float height is 22mm (I think! Somebody correct me if I'm wrong!).

If the float is set properly and isn't binding, take the main jet out and look at it. I don't care what size jets were in the carburetor kit. What size is actually installed in there? (The main jet is the one which screws up into the center of the carburetor body once the float bowl is taken off.) Main jets are numbered, and the jet should be a 230 or bigger...

Also, be sure the carburetor cap is tight and the carb is firmly-clamped in the intake boot.

2-strokes are simple, and you'll get it figured out, but there is a little learning to be done...
