What The Fvck Is Going On

I am having some major engine issues. It all started when I was out riding with my friends in the woods, and I fouled a plug. Then another, Then another. After a few plugs, it was only running for about 30 seconds. The next day, it started to spit and sputter and backfire. Now it won't even start, but it will backfire. I just rebuilt it about a month ago. I have spark, very good compression, and I took the carb off to make sure that everything was right. After kicking for a while, I took the plug out, and it was kind of spotted, but not all that wet. Twice, when I kicked it over, the engine started for a split second, and the died. I have no clue what is going on, and I am starting to get very frustrated. Any advice would be great. Thanks

you probably sheared your woodruff key. your getting spark just not at the right time. I sheared mine once. when I put my fly wheel on it wasnt tight enough and the nut came loose and allowed a little bit of play and thats all it took.

lucky for you there really cheap (like 10 cents) and not to hard to change

I took the flywheel off, and put it back on. It didn't seem to have any play in it, but I'll double check.

If you take the nut off the fly wheel and look at the shaft you might be able too see if the shaft slot lines up with the flywheel slot

im going to sound stupid but: i dont have a key for mine, so would that mean no flywheel?

yeah the woodruff key is not the same as the key for starting it, the woodruff key aligns the crank and the flywheel to keep the motor in time. it is a little "D" shaped piece of metal that fits in the slots in the crank and flywheel.

REMEMBER to use "Anti-seize" on the crankshaft before reassembly. If not, GOD must manifest himself to you and help you remove it next time. Its that bad....

the flywheel is under the left side case cover. do not attempt to remove with out proper tool. make sure proper tool is threaded all the way in and threads in flywheel are clean. yes the spit sputter miss is most likely a broken key

=))rofl but true, and yes its under the left side cover and the tool threads into the hole that the nut is in so be careful with the threads. You'll probably have to get the tool from a yamaha dealer I think its about 10-20 bucks. but sometimes when it shears, its because it becomes loose so you may not need it I didn't when I did mine.

i take off the cover and there is nothing to see

the woodruff key is located in a groove between the shaft and the fly wheel but you might have to remove the fly wheel to see it not sure though. you will at least have to take the nut off to see it
